I think the odds substantiate the fact that Wawrzyk isn't a known commodity at all. I enjoy watching Wilder fight. I think he's very exciting. I don't tend to insult him like others here. I think Anthony Joshua is the best heavyweight right now. And Wilder is probably the second-best. If they fought now, I'd take Joshua by KO. But Wilder puts on exciting fights BECAUSE he isn't that dominant, and he's always slugging it out and people get the real sense he could lose at any time. And given the fact that he's coming off a broken hand AND a torn bicep in his last fight, and he's facing a big guy who can jab, I don't see him winning this easy at all. I think it'll be competitive as long as it lasts ... just like most of Wilder's defenses have been. But 100-1 is nuts. Wawrzyk isn't coming off broken hand/torn bicep surgery, Wilder is.
Wilder might as well take a dive and retire with those ridiculous odds. not so much the fight but who is going to bet Wilder? What do they win for every 1,000 they bet a dollar? hell maybe this is the master Dabella plan?
Imagine just how quick Eddie would be trying to get Wawrzyk over to fight AJ if he somehow picked up the WBC strap by Wilder's arm blowing out. It'd be the most excited he's been since Glazkov's knee gave out making Charles Martin the default IBF champ.
I beleive that would be Wawrzyk seeking Joshua out like martin did,hes going to lose anyway so he will go whoever can get the most $$$ for him.
Rest assured that Wilder's team has rematch options on Wawrzyk. If Wilder lost he will get a number of rematches for sure.
On paper, Wawryzk really isn't that bad. He's in his physical prime and has recently defeated live bodies. Of course, there may be things going on behind the scenes that we are unaware of...
His ability to cling onto a title without facing 1 credible challenger is immense,he is doing it very well
I'm stumped why the odds are this wide considering this is Wilder's first fight since recovering from hand and arm surgery. The only reason he is taking this level of fight is due to being out of the ring because of the surgery, so his performance still remains to be seen. I could understand 5 or 6 to 1 but 100:1 seems a bit much unless the opponent is so bad the odd-makers believe Wilder can defeat him with one hand.
IMO, Wilder and Golovkin opponents have been pretty much the same level. All that is missing is for Wilder to fight a LHW moving up to Heavyweight to complete the comparison.
It's really a terrible defence. I don't care what Wawrzyk's record says - watching tape on him tells me he has no chance. He's one of those guys that has to walk into the pocket to land his slappy type punches on the inside, and his footwork is really poor - he looks un co-ordinated and uncertain on his feet and at times even crosses them while coming forward. His upper body/head movement is nothing special, and his durability appeared poor in the Povetkin fight. I don't want to be disrespectful to any fighter, but this fight is pretty much tailor made for a rangy, hard punching boxer like Wilder. He'll look like Ali in there. Wawrzyk will HAVE to keep coming forward, and he'll be eating shots and even if/when he gets inside he doesn't appear to have enough power to be too troublesome. Very disappointing mis-match. More like an exhibition really. Would be exceptionally surprised at any result other than a Wilder KO within 4.
Wilder will not fight anyone except winos from the alley! 5 voluntary title defenses in a row against bums............................Povetkin was framed to help Wilder keep his fake title................................
Ridiculous that Wilder cherry picks yet again. Look for Wilder to get stunned at some point, then go on to KO the poor slob Wawrzyk, then proceed to stomp around the ring acting like a boss chanting his dumb ass "bum squad" motto. What a disgrace he is.
