Good comparison.

The excitement of the fight took over from the common sense of what had actually happened. An aged Fighter, coming off a fairly bad loss, nearly had Joshua out of there in the middle stages of the bout.

Fair play to Joshua for finding his second wind and getting into the championship rounds but he must know he was a tad fortunate to have managed it (i.e. a younger Wlad could well have sealed the deal at the mid-point).

On that - I think Wilder quite probably has the better conditioning of the top-flight Heavies out there and Wilder will seize on just a hint of his opponents' fatigue. Any of the potential competition watching Wilder's late-round stoppage should be thinking about what they need to do manage that aspect.

 

Oh and, right now, Bowe would beat Wilder fairly comfortably, that is: by KO. Had Bowe been in the boots of Ortiz, he would have finished Wilder in the 7th.

I don't even want to imagine the damage Wilder would have done to Carnera.

Funny thing is Wilder has exactly double the fights under his belt. He's taken a long long time to step it up.
