How would the former bombastic champ have done facing a prime Chris Byrd? Could Chris add Deontay to his resume as he did Vitali and Tua? Or does Wilder crush the blown up light heavy? Jury's out.
Byrd would outbox him for a bit until Wilder finds a way to land the straight right and once he does, It's over
Byrd by late stoppage. Byrd is all wrong for Wilder. You need patience and timing to beat Byrd. Ibeabuchi was patient, which is why he able to connect as clean as he did on Byrd and Wlad had the benefit of having Vitali fight him first and was also very patient when he fought Byrd.
A great pick em fight. With those wild punches Wilder throws, he could certainly throw out his shoulder like Vitali and Holyfield both did trying to hunt Byrd down. But if Wilder catches that boy on the ropes, I dont see his chin holding up to those Wilder bombs, I just dont
Wilder eventually strikes down Byrd like he struck down King Kong. Byrd hadn't the feet to avoid Wilder's punches or the power to deter him form swinging them. Byrd himself said straight out that Wilder's style was all wrong for him.
Byrd would read Wilder like a book. Wilders sloppy jab that he pushes, not snap, his almost non existent left hook , and telegraphed right hand would be so readable to a fighter as skilled as Byrd he'd have a field day with him if he's focused. Byrd didn't have great power. But Wilders chin is very suspect. So that equals out. The angles, quickness awkwardness and South paw stance Byrd possessd would be a shock to Wilder as one dimensional as he is. If Wilder doesn't land the home run shot. Its a easy win by unanimous decision or late stoppage for Byrd.
Yeah I can see that too. Wilder hit hard but Byrd made it to the final rounds with Wladimir, Mcline, Golata, David Tua and Vitali. He beat most of the men mentioned as well
It's an interesting fight. Byrd will make Wilder miss badly most of the time ..... but it only takes one punch from Wilder. Byrd doesn't have the strength and aggression to back Wilder up, so Wilder's going to be dangerous every second of the fight.
I actually think Byrd could back him up at times. To win he's got to get close and land punches. I reckon if he got inside and let his hands go Wilder would back up. Very very interesting fight.
I never liked Byrd's boxing style, Byrd would probably dominate until the moment Wilder catches him and puts him to sleep ...
His style certainly wasn't to everyone's liking that's true. But what he did was pretty effective against fellas a lot bigger.
