There is still not a single confirmed fight on the undercard. Pretty hard to sell an evenings event when there still isnt one. They can keep name dropping big names as suppose to be on the card, but reality is there isnt any. My bet is they are strapped for cash, cant afford an undercard, and fighters are refusing peanuts for an event that is heading for a flop.
Right, first post, it's not a AJ blow fest, the reason people are reacting and mentionimg AJ is because of Wilder and his delusional fans (all 23 of them). When this fight was first being talked about they didn't shut up about what a huge fight this would be and how it would dwarf Joshua Vs anybody else. Apparently it was "The biggest fight out there.." So, sensible boxing fans and AJ fans were trying to tell Wilder fans that Fury isn't nowhere near as big as they thought he was, Fury and Wilder both are not big draws so the idea they were just going to do 1 million plus PPV buys was not only extremely optimistic but it was completely delusional based on what we all know. Wilder fans reacted badly to this information and opinion, everybody who raised these points was called a "hater", "AJ fanboy" and got all sorts of insults thrown at them. Now ticket sales are not doing very well, interest isn't nowhere near what was expected and some people are now saying "300K is a success.." Wilder fans have gone very quiet and it's very noticeable and they will be asked again. The promotional tour was a good idea but it was predictable, boring, not interesting, sure Fury said a few funny comments but he always does, nothing new. Where the promotion has let itself down badly is social media, it isn't and hasn't been pushed on social media enough and it hasn't captured the imagination of casual fans. What is needed is arguments, you start an argument on social media and people want to give their opinions, take sides and become emotionally invested in the fight and are far more likely to buy a PPV. There should have been poll after poll by FW, Finkel, Networks, and with give aways, for example "Who is going to win the fight and why? Free signed shirt for the best answers" That sort of thing, maybe better prizes but the point is to get people arguing and emotionally invested and then you've got them. Getting Fury to run around a stage screaming "Dosser" isn't selling anything, getting Wilder to scream "Bomb Squad" isn't selling anything. It's just noise, you start arguments, you start debate and people want to get involved.
It should have been in the UK period. But I don't really care, one of these clowns is going to lose and this is good for the division.
This. Even though I'm in Los Angeles the location made absolutely no sense. Barclays In New York or the MGM in Vegas would've made a lot more sense.
Deontay Wilder has been promoted poorly from the start. Joshua was essentially rammed down the UK populations throats from practically minute one. Everyone knew he was going to be the best heavyweight in a long time (even if he wasn’t/isn’t going to be.) I don’t know how long Wilder has been with Showtime for, but they know how to market, that’s for sure. I can only guess that it wasn’t a priority, and as a result sales will suffer. I suppose the difference is probably that Showtime’s tv series stuff is what props them up, whereas Sky Sports is what props Sky up.
If the fight does poor its because its a joke fight, if the fight does well people have fallen for a joke of a fight. I dont know what it is but it all feels fake for some reason. I know it isnt a fake fight and not acccusing anybody of anything but it doesnt feel like a big deal, im not getting the buzz. And im not saying this as a Joshua or Hearn fanboy im a drunk Boxing fan. Im looking forward to it but a big occasion like this is meant to be id be buzzin about it already.
It does seem fake as you say from the pretend beef, to the constant line that this is the biggest fight in boxing right now, to the insistence that the winner will be the number 1 heavyweight in the world. They are dressing up this fight to be something it's not and fans while they can be gullible and fall for a good narrative this isn't a good narrative. Mayweather vs McGregor was a good lie, it fooled the casuals this lie is too transparent and casuals will not fall for this.
Well considering Fury couldn't sell a Wlad rematch as reigning champion in his own country very well this shouldn't be a huge surprise. Poor old Deontay has been Warren'd though, thinking he was going to be this huge ppv star on his debut with millions of buys and a massive payday.
Phoney beef, no undercard at all, poorly promoted, and the flipping obvious, neither of these guys have ever been big draws. One has been absent for 3 years with 2 comeback sparring sessions on undercards, and the other is a 40 fight veteran world champion who's made a career of avoiding fights and challenges, has never been promoted properly, and has never been a PPV fighter. Last, but not least, what fighter/manager is going to want to be on the card with Wilder and Fury screaming their childish hatred of Hearn/Matchroom? They will be shooting themselves in their feet regarding their biggest future paydays to fight one fight on a flop card for peanuts.
Why do fans focus so much on sales, i don't see this obsession in other sports. Let me guess, you would rather watch Joshua against a Parker/Whyte because it would sell more tickets?
