Two things, though... 1. Ref was on Chisora's side. 2. Wilder let him off the hook in the 8th in front of the world. Wilder won that, and I am much more of a Chisora fan.
It was far from a great fight it was a sloppy mess of a fight with some entertaining moments here and there. The fight was only close on the scorecards because Wilder lost 2 points that he didn't deserved to lose. The point deduction was bogus. And the knockdown was clearly a slip aswell. Even with the referee on Chisora's side Wilder deserved to win that fight with the cleaner work. 1 Chisora 2 Wilder 3 Wilder 4 Chisora 5 Chisora 6 Wilder 7 Wilder 8 Wilder 9-8 knockdown & point deducted. 9 Wilder 10 Chisora 11 Wilder 9-8 2 knockdowns each. 12 Chisora 113-111 Wilder
Great fight. Enjoyed the whole thing. The result doesn't matter, really. Both guys showed they're warriors and gave a good accounting of themselves. The money men are setting up Wilder-Joshua, so that was always going to happen anyway.
Wilder won the fight, i can't see an argument that he didn't. It was an extremely poorly skilled affair, with woeful stamina on display and a few good highlight exchanges. I found it hard to watch. If Joshua can't put Wilder away he needs locking up, assuming he's actually serious in the fight. Then again he's become a bit of a headcase himself.
I wouldn't lament a draw but I really feel Wilder clearly edged it. I think most of what Chisora did was relatively ineffective, I think Wilder hurt him multiple times, dropped him. It was clear imo that, besides Wilder getting hit with the rabbit punches, Chisora was having the worse time in there. Seemed on the verge of being stopped at a couple points. Close competitive fight but I think Wilder was better and more effective. Nice scrap.
Chisora looked like an old, old dog with flashes of good head movement. Coming in this heavy didn't help him either. Wilder might be old as well, but he doesn't have the mileage Chisora has and it showed.
I agree it was close and competitive, but also, the ref made it closer then it should have been. Even with that, Wilder still edged it.
I wonder what the reasoning was for Chisora coming in so pudgy. That he was going to use the extra weight for his physicality I suppose... but these type of game plans almost always backfire and it did here too, imo. I dont know how much better he would have done if he had been in better shape but he almost certainly would have been some degree better in there.
I assumed it was to copy Fury's come in heavy and go forward approach. Chisoras issue was that he didn't have a gameplan outside of his overhand right. Ironically, Wilder had a more diverse gameplan.
Wilder won. My only issues are Wilder talking about making history and legacy with that fight and how he let Del Boy off because he wants him to be there for his kids. The guy is seriously deluded. It was a really bad, low quality fight. I’ve seen better outside Wetherspoons on a Monday.
