Still a nice chunk of net profit for the promoters based on those numbers ($5-$8M each). And the fighters got very well paid (over$25M each). And the networks made easy money, which supports the PPV model.

Is that what you would call a bust?

Fighters done very well to get such high guaranteed purses when break even was such a high number of buys.

Starting to think Bob Arum genuinely believed this would do 2mil buys

    Hopefully so!!

    True.

Agreed. They did a great job promoting.

I think it is a mixture of factors in the U.S. Un-affordable price for one.

Wel ive exhausted this topic a dozen times, the economics between USA and UK or any other country for that matter vary drastically

    25
Pounds in UK is not the equivalent spending power of 25 dollars

Americans on average earn more for the equivalent role in Uk.. cost
Of living is lower... USA disposable income is more hence it works out to be even 60 dollars versus 25 pounds

has nothing to donwith exchange rate unless you are a british national going over to the USA to buy a ticket in which case 60 dollars is the least of your problems considering flight costs and hotel costs

Maybe boxing needs to look at price.

    UFC ppv cost $64.99

Shouldn't boxing be matching that price?

That's a good point. Fury/Wilder 3 won't make as much as obviously it won't be seen as competitive, it might only do 325K like the first fight and so the money they'll be offering to both of them for a 3rd fight would likely be a lot less.

With Joshua offering Fury maybe double what he'd get for a Wilder rematch it might very well make Fury decide to try and delay the rematch with Wilder and fight Joshua next.

Nah Mayweather Pacmam and Canelo etc have elevated boxing in USA it must be a marketing thing or they are just not impressed with Wilder and Fury... Fury didnt get much love in UK either

Wilder and Fury have a track record of not selling well... but guys like AJ and Whyte always sell well in the UK... they’ve earned the attention of the pundits and they keep brining the pundits back... for Wilder and Fury they havent done any of that... must be their PADDED RECORDS!!!!! Shot themselves in the foot and this is what makes Whyte and AJ so respected

I mean Whyte in a non title fight against an unknown earn almost 300K by himself thats solid pulling power... for pundits be like “go on then... dont know Rivas but Whyte can have my 20 quid”

It all boils down to Loyalty and building a loyal honest brand and thats What Whyte and AJ bring not Fury who is
Inconsistent and unpredictable in his career or Wilder fighting nobodies

Exactly. Fury could make $50 mil fighting AJ.

I'm not sure his gonna turn that down.

How many would AJ sell in the US though ?
I think it's hard to calculate because he's fighting on DAZN there.

Maybe the Americans just fell out of love with heavyweights. This is the biggest US PPV success at heavyweight since Lewis-Tyson I think.
They prefer those little punks like Mayweather and Pacquiao and Canelo.

I’m no expert but you only have to look at the journos who are saying 1-1.1m was break even. Maybe networks take a bigger cut. Marketing spend would have been in the millions
