Where is the proof there? Wilder has always been a puncher, but he mostly breaks guys down, or clips chinny guys(Szpilka). But since Stiverne II, this idea this formed that Wilder can just end the fight any moment. And yes, he has scored spectacular KO´s. But also a lot of guys have gotten back up. If you look at Shaver´s fights and KO´s, it´s arguable that he is the bigger puncher. But no way is it clear that Wilder has he edge here.
Holmes is too skilled. Wilder could land something that may knock Holmes down, it's not a given that he'd land such a shot. But I think Holmes hit hard enough to floor Wilder. Holmes schools him.
Holmes picks him apart regardless. He's on a different level to the current crop of bums. To fight Larry, Deontay has to be present in the same era, so he won't be privy to any breakthroughs in sports science that Holmes is not.
The gulf in class between these two is enormous. Wilder has the proverbial punchers chance here and even then if he lands and manages to deck Holmes, Larry gets up and survives. Other than that Wilder is picked apart, totally outclassed and is stopped sometime after half way.
Holmes from 1977-1980 easily finished even prime Ortiz with a glance in couple of rounds. Not only Wilder, at least half from current HW TOP10 had damn serious examination if they had Holmes from these years in the ring.
Yes, it is clear that Wilder has the edge. Wilder KOd big HWs, not skinny ones like Shavers. Shavers KO percentage against HWs that weigh in excess of 215 lbs is less than 50%.
How many HOFamers Shavers beat? And how big is KO ratio of Wilder against hall of famers? Wilder knocked big bums and Shavers knocked the few of the best in his era. You are just jelaous moron because your hero Tyson does not punch as hard as Shavers? Well dealt with that.
Ellis,Young,Norton,Bugner....all of them were 210/215 pounds. 42 years Shavers knocked Simms faster than prime Tyson and all mutual opponents said Shavers hit harder dealt with that!
215lb and over club? He only went the distance with two guys(whom he beat) First of all, Shavers is from the 70s, so he hardly ever fought guys that size, or much bigger. Secondly, you are basing your logic on the idea that weight matters most. Mairis Briedis KO over Charr is a great example of this idea being false. If a 200lb man hits you, you will feel it. Especially if that 200lb man is Earnie ****ing Shavers. David Haye blasted glass jawed Harrison with ease, despite Harrison having 40lbs on him. That weight surely should have helped Harrison? Nope, did **** all for him. Steve Cunnigham nearly put Tyson Fury out. Cunningham wasn´t even a big puncher at Cruiserweight. But he dropped a big ass heavyweight like a sack of potatoes. Just shows that at 200lbs, things are different. Unlike at the lower weights where Roman Gonzales is steamrolling guys at 112 and suddenly hits a wall at 115.
Larry Holmes: "Earnie hit me harder than any other fighter, including Mike Tyson. He hit me and I was face down on the canvas hearing saxophonist Jimmy Tillis ·James "Quick" Tillis: "Shavers hit so hard he turned horse p*ss into gasoline! He hit me so hard he brought back tomorrow. When he hit me… I was seeing pink rats and cats and animals smoking cigarettes. I was in the land of make-believe." "No doubtThe baddest motherf*cker I fought was Earnie Shavers. That motherf*cker can make July into June and made me jump over the mf'n moon. He hit me so hard, I thought I was on the corner smoking cigarette and eating a spam sandwich. That's how hard that motherf*cker hit."
I think Holmes’ skill, Stamina, quickness and staying power will see him to a decision. But Wilder’s rangy style and dangerous right hand would make it tough
