Wilder is an outside fighter with a great killer instinct. When he fights tall opponents they're always plodders or slow. If he fights fast opponents he make sure that they're short. The combination of reactions, speed, height, reach and power is why he gets away with it. The only time Wilder fought somebody moderate fast of his own size he was outjabbed. (GW) Ortiz is tall and rangy, decent speed, but great timing and distance control. He brings a perfect blend of talents and skills to expose Wilder bad. He has stronger arms and greater reach than Wilder thus taking away the jab from him. It will become even more apparent especially since he is a southpaw. Then what? In and out swinging that right. Wilder is fast but in this case his looping right hand needs to travel even further than usual because of the southpaw stance of Ortiz, King Kong will see it coming by a mile and answering that phone call every time. Wilder's gonna get off balance without his right hand, and that's when he's getting countered in the pocket. Wilder chin is horrible, it just takes on decent punch on the chin. The only reason why he has survived all this time is because he never gets clipped because of short or slow opposition. It will be evident when he get clipped. And he will get clipped in this one.
tempted to put a hefty wedge on Ortiz. Bookmakers reading too much into the Buffet Bermane demolition.
Good analysis. Still gonna go (barely) for Wilder but it's about 50 50 to me and it might go down this way.
Haymon's judges have already filled out their cards for Wilder, Haymon has already decided the winner. Wilder has HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE!
Ortiz KO for me but no doubt that it's a legit win for Wilder. I'll take him seriously as a champion if he wins. He's just too open for me to not pick the better technician with excellent power
Wilder. There isn't enough WD40 in the world to loosen up gramp's stiff leg joints and catch Wilder. Maybe the Ortiz from the early 80s would have a decent chance.
Voted Ortiz, but I'm kinda surprised he's actually in the lead out here as he's not the odds favorite.
I would vote Ortiz if he was 15 lbs lighter and 10 years younger. Now he appears too old and flat-footed to cut off the ring. I feel if Wilder can simply avoid getting his chin exposed in the first 3-4 rounds Ortiz will get slower and slower, then Wilder can simply run around, pot-shot and cruise to an easy UD.
Ortiz will weigh in with 230-235lbs. I do not think this is too heavy for him. This is almost the exact same weight than he had vs Jennings and he looked brutal there and was really fit.
Ortiz hasn't looked good in his last several fights and now he's off the PEDs, so I don't think he's going to suddenly recapture the magic from the Jennings fight. Wilder catches him with a big right somewhere in the 4th or 5th and KOs gramps.
