"Wilder vs Parker is a matter of when, not if" - Duco David Higgins of Duco confirms they are holding discussions for fights with both Hughie Fury and WBC champion Deontay Wilder. "We've read the WBO rules and if they sanction unification it can override a mandatory," Higgins said. "There are some options to look at and we're looking at all of them". "That's a fight that will happen. It's a matter of when, not if." "My initial discussion was with Al Haymon, and Al and I discussed how the lack of unification is hurting the heavyweight division over the years. We shared an identical view about that situation and agreed that unification is good". "I think we would look at both options and see what Wilder would be prepared to put on the table to go to Vegas or Alabama and conversely what we could put on the table for Wilder to come here. Then we would talk and work it out." Hughie Fury is expected to become the mandatory challenger - should the WBO rule out David Haye. The sanctioning body has not made any official ruling on Haye, but it appears that fighting Fury would satisfy the mandatory obligation. Based on the current discussions with Fury's team, that defense has a good chance at heading to a purse bid. "I think the purse bid looks the most likely scenario if the mandatory is indeed the case," said Higgins. "That's a ruling for the WBO, so I will be engaging with the WBO in the coming days and weeks to seek clarification on that process," Higgins said.
We got 5 weeks till the Wilder/Wawryzk fight. The Parker/Wilder may get locked in before the Wawryzk fight but ultimately it all depends on how Wilders hand comes through in that fight. Its good news that the talks from both camps are happening but Im going to wait for post fight Wawryzk for any announcements then from the Bomb Squad.
