If this fight happens, and assuming the likeliest outcome, Wilder by KO, Ruiz's potential shot at a future title fight is gone, at least for a while. Seems very risky for Ruiz, but I'd applaud him for taking the chance.
Wilder by KO. Ruiz isn't very good and I don't think his style is one to give Wilder problems. I think Usyk, Joyce, or AJ would be much more difficult fights for different reasons than a fat, flat-footed plodder like Ruiz, who is apparently afraid to engage his opponents now (watch the Ortiz fight).
It's a good match up I favor Wilder but anything can happen at heavyweight. I wouldn't write Ruiz off completely he has the style to trouble Wilder especially if he has a good game plan.
A lot of people did. @Mitch87 and @catchwtboxing even said that Helenius was "too dangerous" for Wilder and thought that Wilder's handlers wouldn't even make the fight. And relative to everyone else who fought Helenius the KO1 was a good win: Chisora and Whyte were both taken 12 rounds.
And for the record I have not backed off on giving him some credit for getting in the ring and getting a good win...but it is Robert Helenius. I mean, sometimes, both sides in an argument are a little bit right. Wilder climbed in the ring with the 6th or 7th best opponent he has faced, a big puncher nonetheless, and won in spectacular fashion, announcing he is back. But it was Robert Helenius. The blatant nut-huggery where people are saying he should have a fourth fight with Fury, that Usyk is afraid of him, and that he'd beat Usyk, is absolutely ridiculous. It was a good start...now let him get in there with Ruiz, and then we'll talk.
