His legs didn`t have to be good that fought at crawling pace and Wilder only threw two punches a round until near the end! lol!
Rooney would know how to dismantle Wilder while dodging his straight punches, Tyson made his name doing that before he sacked Kevin.
Have you boxed before? Very few heavyweights are capable of having legs that fresh late in a fight, regardless of tempo. And getting rattled doesn't make it any easier.
A prime Mike Tyson is so far removed from anyone Wilder has fought. I would back Tyson to smoke Deontay in a few rounds. Wilder often leaves his chin hanging in the air after throwing his right hand, Tyson would counter him with a left hook and drop him like a stone. If Deontay was hurt for two rounds from a few of Ortiz' punches then he would be snoring if Tyson hit him. As a few others have also stated Tyson's style was based on being able to land heavy counter punches against jabbing tall boxer types. If I was training Wilder vs Tyson my basic plan would be to try n survive by using the jab, footwork and clinching to hug Tyson to death for the first six or so rounds, hope he doesnt get flattened and then try and use his superior length to land some bombs on Mike later on in the fight. kind of a modified Bonecrusher Smith style fight plan. The other plan would be to just go out n slug n hope for the best. Cheers All.
Wilder would have to use Tucker`s tactics specifically keeping his long lead extended, preventing Tyson from getting inside, the only punch that could catch Tyson was the uppercut that dropped Ortiz but Wilder better not miss because he`s wide open, Tyson`s finishing ability was unmatched.
I do think that Wilder has not shown the skills of the 80's fighters... but I would like to point out that Wilder was not able to use his jab effectively against the southpaw Ortiz.... against a conventional stylist he may find more success with his jab.... and all of the 80's guys are orthodox... still I'm not convinced that Wilder is a world beater even right now....
