Wilder looked like he tried to impress his home crowd too much. He didn't go to the body of Molina, and he got wobbled a bit by him also. He didn't use his jab and he just kept trying for the one punch ko. Molina was no push over and prepared himself very well for this fight. He has a decent punch, and decent skill. Yeah, he threw a couple of good left hooks, but he was looking for the ko with every punch. I'll give him a pass for that because this happens to a lot of guys when they fight at home. He can't be this wreckless against Povetkin, and imo I don't think he will be. Walters fought a good fight. He didn't pressure like he's used to doing in this fight, and I understood why. He used his skills and boxed. He was a technition last night. The man can box and punch. If he fights Loma, he better do it next fight or just move up to 130 lbs. I don't think he's a FW anymore. Wilder gets a B- Walters gets an A
Wilder was awful, but it was probably down to him wanting to impress like you said. He looked like he had regressed since the Stiverne fight - no game plan, pawing jab, loading up on all his shots, jumping backwards with his chin in the air, etc. Someone also needs to show him how to throw a hook properly and how to stay calm and pick his shots when his opponent is hurt. I like Wilder, but against Molina he looked like a hard hitting, untrained street fighter. Walters showed he could fight another way tonight and he looked good at times, but, we have to remember that he had an opponent who stood in front of him all night long and allowed him to get his shots off.
I missed the Wilder fight but it sounded like a train wreck. I actually agree with you about the home town pressure:deal Walters knew he was in for a fight so what did he do...missed weight and blew up another 15 pounds. :-( On the positive side his mixing up the head and body was beautifully played inside the ring. He had a dangerous opponent in front of him and he slowly broke him down. Walters needs to go ahead and move on up IMO:thumbsup
That's a good read and I agree on the points you made. Wilder needs more maturity and polish. I don't know that he can get that with his present staff. Not knocking them because they brought him this far, I just don't think that they understand how to prepare a fighter to be dominate on the world stage like a Klitschko or an Ali or Joe Louis. He could very well get knocked out in his next fight if he approaches it the way he did this one. Walters showed growth in his skills and his power has never been in question. My knock on him is his unprofessionalism in not making weight and his inability to adjust to that right hand. Marriaga can fight and it wasn't a cake walk for Walters even with his advantage of weight and power.
You did. Real fans peep guys styles while frauds see what they want to see. Jabs to the stomach count. See the Stiverne fight for details.
I like Wilder but he was poor and exposed last night.....so delicate around the whiskers too......D=must do better Walters, failed to make weight then i didnt really think impressed at all and like Wilder got exposed a couple of times by a much smaller guy....... C=im expecting more once he is more active
