Okay, I will admit right off the bat - I am no Wilder fan. I dont think i would go as far to say im a hater, but i think i could be in due time. The general consensus from the majority on this forum is that Wilder has a poor resume, has no genuine interest in fighting the cream of the crop and is happy to fight the poorest opponents he can "get away with" so to speak. (I know he was going to fight Povetkin before i get that reply). The HW division is not by any means filled with elite talent, however Wilder being a world champion and 31 years of age should no longer be fighting the likes of Gerald Washington's, Chris Arreola's etc. I think we all know the reasons why he wont fight the top fighters in the division, he would get sparked in all likelihood. He has a dynamite right hand and his power is exceptional, no doubting that. But he looks extremely limited in terms of boxing ability. Im just wondering how much longer you would give him before losing interest entirely in him, 5 voluntary defences in a row and quality of those opponents is undeniably poor. Personally i think he is waiting to cash out against Joshua - although i think he will beat Parker before he fights Joshua (which i will happily give him credit for) and it will be a unifcation fight. This may seem like a hate thread - its genuinely not, i have said time and time again i would take far more interest in DW if he wanted to fight the best opposition he can. I just feel like by the time he does fight an elite level operator people will have become so disollusioned with him there will be little interest in it. On the other hand - if he stepped up his level of opposition and fought the best fighters available i would genuinely take notice, and may even start to be a fan. I think knowing he is vulnerable but also capable of ending a fight with one punch is exciting and would be happy to watch his fights if he were in with top opposition. How do you guys feel?
Completely agree, he needs that belt to stay as a person of interest to the top Heavies. If he fought a top contender, barring a huge, lucky, windmilling right hand, he would get sparked early. And if that happens against anyone except Joshua its pointless for him, getting KO'd by AJ gives him a huge purse to cash out with. If he loses to Washington he is instantly irrelevant.
Remember what he's fighting for; his daughter. I don't think he's interested in being the best, just getting the most bang for his buck. And people have already lost patience, that's why so many hate him. I personally don't care.... not a fan or a hater.
I get that, and i respect that about him, not taking anything away from his reasons behind fighting. I just cant see why anyone would be interested anymore.
Pretty much everyone apart from his 3-4 circle jerking fanboys here, random idiots and his home state are already fed up with his ****.
Mainly interested as many of my friends are not that bothered about boxing so therefore have never heard of Wilder, they only really know AJ, Floyd, Ali, Tyson, Hatton and Ricky Burns (living in scotland). Personally im reaching the end of my patience with Wilder, just wondered what everyone elses thoughts were, seems we share the same opinion.
It was the Washington fight for me, exaggerated by how poor he looked in it Fed up of having to Google the opponent of a WBC world title heavyweight defence, he just manages to find these fighters nobody has ever heard of Respect to the fighters, but they aren't the quality of opposition that you'd expect for a world title defence !
WBC need to have a word with themselves also, joke defences. Just don think he could lay a glove on klitschko, Joshua, fury etc.
