Im not saying Brezeale is levels above Washington, they are both nothing to shout about but competent. But that was Wilders 38th fight. Brezeale was Joshuas 17th if i remember right.
Yeah, I get that and I'm not defending Wilder on those grounds. I just see a lot of people downgrading Washington as an opponent and wanted to set (what I feel is) the record straight.
Washington hasnt done anything to prove that he is a major step up from Wawrzcyk or Arreola. Joshua fought Breazeale in his 17th fight... Not his 38th and 5th title defence...
depends on his next fight he has said Parker, if that's true great fury imploded, Joshua and wlad appear to be doing it again wilder may have to wait for a big fight if Parker doesn't materialize
When a fighter consistently fails to land big fights you have to question whether they really want them, especially when they're marketable guys like Wilder. Rules and rankings can to a certain extent be made malleable to suit a fighter's interests, and when I see guys like Arreola and Stiverne magically appearing in the WBC top fifteen just in time for Wilder to fight them that raises major question marks in my mind.
Well, Washington had already drawn with Mansour (albeit controversially) and beaten Chambers. Arreola's best win is Seth Mitchell. I have no idea who Wawrzcyk's best win is. Joshua can be excused for fighting a guy of Brezeale's calibre that early in his career, but I'd say the same could be applied to Wilder considering it was a comeback fight from injury and last minute replacement.
But you claim to know Wilders mindset. Parker was issued a challenge to unify the titles and so far he has not accepted. Until he accepts Wilders challenge , you have to assume that he is not interested. Would you give Wilder a pass for avoiding Parker to take a big money fight with Bellew? Thats not a justifiable excuse for Parker avoiding a unification fight. . A fight that probably only has a 30% chance of ever happening anyway.
I would say Washington was on their level don't get me wrong, he's just not a major step up. You could see him losing to those two. Wilder fights these guys exclusively not just because he came back from injury.
Parker should take the Wilder fight, I agree. Until I hear some legit offers I will assume neither camp wants it. I think they are both looking to a Joshua cash out to be honest. Parker is only 23 fights in and has a better resume than Wilder so he would not be as ridiculed as Wilder for taking a Bellew payday.
Wawrzcyk or Arreola are not in high demand as sparring partners at the highest level. Joshua tried to get Washington as his chief sparring partner for the Klitschko fight but couldn't get him. The guy isn't elite , but he's not a garbage man either.
That's because one failed a drug test and the other is irrelevant. You couldn't pick Washington to beat anyone in the top 50 confidently... Just because he got used as a sparring partner just mean he deserves to be getting title shots...
Wilder has a more legit claim to being a champion than Parker. And Wilder didn't struggle badly in his title fight. His title reign is better than Parkers by default of having more more defences.
