Jennings had the perfect style to make Wlad look bad, Wilder has the perfect style to make Wlad look good.
Agreed. Wlad looks poor against smaller opponents, but better against tall opponents, around his size or even greater. wlad would DESTROY Fury or Wilder.
Perhaps it was different on tv, as I haven't watched a replay, but in person, Jennings fought far too defensively, i.e. NOT punching enough, to win the fight. I gave him rounds 6 & 7. You could maybe give him one more from 1 - 5, but he didn't even win the round that Wlad was docked a point (Round 10 I think?), I had it 9-9 after the deduction. I am really excited to see what the future holds for Jennings, as he is more likable than Fury or Wilder. Although my opinion of him soured a bit after the fight when he complained about the scoring. The closest judge had it 116-112 (8-4), which is even more generous than what I and the unbiased people sitting around me thought.
Hopefully the great showing Jennings put forth last nite will be enough to get Wilder thinking he MIGHT be able to do as the OP suggests. B/C it's been blatantly apparent that anyone who has shared the ring with Wlad in camp, has taken a lesson in humility as to what they can and can't do vs Wlad inside the circle. That said, Fury went to Wlads camp a couple yrs back, and it might be a faded memory, whereas Wilder was just there last yr. I don't think a big man is gonna beat Wlad. Not a 6'5 + guy. That is unless he's got Tysons style of offense which I havent seen as of yet. But someone like a young Potvetkin would have beaten the Wladimir of last night. As would a pre injury Mago. Those other big HWs gotta remember that those hugging conditions arise almost exclusively when the opposing fighter gets inside Wlads chest. A tall fighter aint gonna lunge in head first winging shots and bury his head in Wlads chest and get a referee to intervene, scaring Wlad into not grabbing and resetting. Theyre gonna try to time Wlads pawing jaw and come over it with a R hand, it's their ONLY hope as they're almost ALWAYS more awkward of foot than he is.:think
He's the only HW fighter that I think would have a chance. But there are several elements in that fight that would have to go his way: 1. The ref would have to warn Wladimir early on- i.e. before th 6th round- for holding too much. When Wladimir isn't allowed to do that, he's completely out of his comfort zone. 2. Wilder would have to train for the fight of his life and really put an emphasis on increasing his stamina. While he dominated Stiverne, in the latter rounds he did look tired. And Wladimir is no Stiverne. The fact these men are similar in height and Wilder packs a terrific punch in his right hand could make this one of Wladimir's toughest fights in his career. I just wonder how WIlder's chin would hold up to the 1-2 combinations Wlad likes to shoot straight down the middle. It's a very simple, but effective combination.
Yup that's what I see happening. To beat Wlad a KO is what you need. Wilder has the punch and has the size (reach) to land that punch. In my opinion when he connects on Klitschko the fight is over. It's damn near impossible or so it has seemed to land a flush shot on Wlad in recent years but anytime anyone does they back him up. If Wilder can touch him with the jab and then land full thunder with the right its over folks sorry Klitschko fans this is the way I see it.
Fair enough, but I don't buy into the fact that Wilder actually hits that hard. He hit Stiverne at will for 12 rounds and couldn't get him to budge. We also know that Wilder's punch resistance isn't great either. Realistically, Wilder-Fury should happen before either gets a shot at Wlad or one of them should fight Povetkin...don't think any of those fights happen though
