Honestly surprised at the odds for this one. Ortiz the most skilled fighter in that whole heavyweight division. I think he,ll hurt wilder. Wilders improving...got some decent attributes but in comparison to Ortiz he's a bit of a novice in terms of all round skill. Ortiz might not have the speed in his punches but their thudding shots..hes also quicker than people make out on the counter. I think wilder will start in panic mode...when Ortiz starts landing won't be long till he goes to full panic mode. Wilders improving but there always been an element of he's imitating a great fighter as opposed to being a great fighter. I m not all that sure he believes in himself as much as he makes out. When push comes to shove hell go into panic mode.

There's a reason hes 40 fights in and taking on his first real challenge. They,ve even picked a guy that suits his style...that's old...and a lot of people think is finished based on his last few performances. I think they,ve made a mistake here tho. As long as theres not an issue with Ortiz with the drugs...as in we,ve been watching him on drugs now he's off them he's ineffective. I think he,ll beat wilder.

I rate wilder more than a lot of people do as well..hes getting better. If he does win it he,s got to be taking seriously tbf.

Wilder does not have to fight, all he has to do is be standing at the end of the bell, Haymon's judges have already filled out their cards for Wilder, if Ortiz knocks Wilder out, then Haymon will have Ortiz framed. Wilder knows this, that's why he took the fight, he can't lose! Wilder has HAYMON BOXING INSURANCE!

Yes I can agree with this,Wilder looks so much bigger and it’s not like Ortiz has a better resume than Wilder,I mean if he fought Wlad that fought AJ I wouldn’t give Wilder a round even but Ortiz I can see him beating.

I will root for Ortiz and want him to win but lets be honest for a moment here , Ortiz is with Haymon as well as Wilder and has been caught with Peds so many times before.Ortiz is old and Cuban - hard to sell to the fans , even harder than Wilder or Ward etc.

Joshua ducked Ortiz when he was his mando and chose Pulev his IBF mando instead.Ortiz is kinda stuck and nowhere to go , probably will take extra cash and future money / opponents to take a dive.Haymon is very shady guy.Either that or Ortiz will get caught with peds after the fight for a change now.If the fight even happens at all.

Its Wilder and Haymon after all , everything can happen.I believe that Ortiz is genuine top 3-5 heavyweight right now and avoided but still his real age is probably mid 40s.If its genuine win for Wilder and nothing shaddy occurs then its great win still on his resume.

I think so also. Size would be a big factor.

The problem with the theory is outside of the Stiverne rematch Deontay looked competitive even with the worst Boxrec #70 boxers. Duhaupas, that Polish bouncer guy, Molina all looked very much on Deontay's level until he won a stoppage.

If Ortiz doesn't win a round then how much worse than Duhaupas and Molina is he?

Not eve close to worse, but as the thread title states, Styles Make Fights, that applies here. Ortiz would violently KO Duhaupas and Molina, but stylistically he doesn't match up very well with Wilder.

Wilders feints and long jab will give Ortiz problems. Wilder also likes to take lead hand dominance but Ortiz has shown the ability to take that away from his opponents.

All in all i dont see Wilder going for the early kill.

Wilder was very very careful vs. Stiverne in the first bout. I expect him to be as careful in this fight at least until Ortiz runs out of gas and becomes more flat-footed. Therefore I find a very early KO to be unlikely (of course, anything is possible).

I do not see that Ortiz is not matching stylewise with Wilder. I think the opposite. Ortiz style is a nightmare for a guy like Wilder. If you watch the fights of Ortiz you can see how his big left hands even on the gloves of his opponent are doing some damage to prepare the body shot or even a big hook/left to the the head. Wilder is not familar with fighting a guy who is both tall AND powerful. I can see easily Ortiz landing some big shots on the gloves of Wilder pushing him to the backfoot and then giving him some heavy shots to the body ....

The Szpilka fight tells a lot here. If a southpaw like Szpilka who is a basic skill boxer with almost no power and a glass chin survives almost 9 rounds vs Wilder with rocking him a couple of times and keeping it close i really think a world class southpaw like Ortiz should pretty much give him the trouble of his life there.

And guys, the "old, fat, slow" bull**** is sooooooo annoying. Ortiz is in great shape physically, he has good foodspeed and movement and his hands are more than fast for a HW. Might be his best shape ever apart from the Jennings fight and he looked MASSIVE there in all aspects of the game.

I'd protest, but I have too much admiration for the threadstarter's work on Rain and She Said, She Said.

Look here's what I want Deontay to do in order to win some respect from die-hard critics. He has to weather the storm, neutralize Ortiz and possibly stop him late. If we see Ortiz comes to win, is game, has good stamina and STILL gets outboxed by Wilder then that will deserve respect.

I'm disappointed at the level of disdain people are giving Ortiz now that the fight's coming up to time. Unless he's declined rapidly or agreed to take a dive then he should brutalise Wilder, who's struggled with far lesser fighters than the likes of Jennings and Thompson, both of whom were destroyed by Ortiz. Jennings would in fact by Wilder's best opponent, had he fought him at that time.

My only concern is that Ortiz has been paid off for a Wilder win. If that isn't the case then Wilder's in for a major problem.
