Wilder/Wlad comparison

    Wilder gets incredible grief from many here on the level of his opposition.

    Yes, its true that his opposition has been less than stellar, but theres clearly double standards too.

    Wlad is considered the #1 HW of his generation.
    Hes dominated for the last decade, and is rightly considered one of the top HWs of all time.

    When you compare where they were at similiar stages in their career though, you see there aree definite similarities.

    Wilder has 35 pro fights.

    Wlad won his first world title in his 35th fight against Chris Bird, who was, by far and away the best fighter he had beaten, before that, the only mildly well ranked fighter he had beaten was Axel Shultz.

    Frankly, their resumes after 35 fights are pretty comparable.

    The other problem people seem to have with Wilder is the standard of his defences.

    Wilders first 3 defences are against
    Eric Molina
    Johann Duhaupas
    Artur Szpillka

    Wlads were against
    Derrick Jefferson(Who had been KO'd twice in his previous 3 fights)
    Charles Shufford
    Frans Botha

    Was Wlads first 3 defences any better?

    So, yes, Wilders opposition has been mediocre, but then again, so was Wlads at that stage of his career, and no one talks about that.

    For some reason Wilder is singled out, like hes the only fighter in history to do what hes doing

    yeah not a bad point, however, I already liked Wilder long ago,,,

    only question I have about him is how good his chin is but I am starting to think it could be good enough even if its not great, still a little too soon to say, he is exciting regardless and that's what I like about him most :bbb

    Complete nonsense. Jefferson and Botha were light years better than the stiffs Wilder has faced. Furthermore, Wlad was facing them a little over 4 years into his career, not SEVEN freakin' years for Wilder! :patsch

    And, if you look at his pre-title opposition, about 2-3 years into his career, Wlad was facing tough journeymen like Everett "Bigfoot" Martin and then fringe contenders like Phil Jackson and Monte Barrett, who are better than anyone Wilder has faced outside of perhaps Stiverne.

    A couple of years into his career, Wilder was still facing - and getting decked by - guys like Dustin Nichols and Harold Sconiers! :lol::rofl:lol:

    No, there is NO comparison between Wlad and Wilder's opposition. Wlad was matched the way fighters on the way up should be, with graduated increases in the quality of opposition. Wilder has been fed tomato can after tomato can to create the illusion he's a "power puncher" and he can actually take a punch!

    Yeah GREAT post OP but unfortunately Wilder hasn't been KO'D like Klitchko yet. We all know that HWs need to be knocked out before they realize their mistake and become better.

    Klitschko held the WBO which was an unrecognized belt at that point. His defenses weren't meant to be against world class fighters.

    Wilders are. He's the WBC champion, historically that is the second most revered belt next to the WBA, his defenses are not excusable.

    If he wants to pad an impressive record with street sweepers, emergency room workers and telemarketers then so be it. But as a champion he NEEDS to step up. His last 3 defenses were abysmal. If he doesn't fight Povetkin after Szpilka, he should be stripped. End of.

    In fairness the wbc heavyweight belt has meant nothing since vital I vacated and wbc only started letting guys ranked outside the too twenty fight for it and ibky Americans could fight in eliminators

    It means as much as a European title right now

    Wlad done this by 24, wilder is almost 30

    Wlad did it in under 4 years, wilder is approaching 8 years as a pro

    The TS Limerick box aka stb is a nationalistic american lover, thus is why he defends wilder . no need to take him seriously his so warped he doesn't even know his trolling

    What made Jefferson better than the guys Wilder faced??

    Imagine the **** Wilder would get for fighting a guy who was KO'd twice in his past 3 fights!

    What had Botha done in the 2-3 years leading up to fighting Wlad other than being knocked out of the ring by LL in just over a round?

    His not from limerick his a yank, if fury was american he would be licking his bum right now. Limerickbox aka stb is a nationalistic american troll who's so warped he doesn't even know his extremely bias

    He says he lives in London but if that's the case he regularly stays up until 5am defending Americans

    He once threatened to report people to the police because they were making fun of Andre ward and saying he would get them done for slander. The guy is a complete loser.
