live on sky sports news on the phone now. Says he will fight Dillian Whyte as long as the contract says “Joshua next”. Emphasises how easy the Whyte fight is and again emphasises he will only take it if the Joshua next is in the contract. Also says he will go anywhere in the world to fight him or anyone else. Says he’s the number 1 heavyweight in the world (LOL). Says Joshua is using Whyte as a distraction to avoid him.
If he means it then the ball is well and truly in Hearn and Joshua,s court. This is a smart move for everybody all round if this comes off. If Wilder turns up with his pen ready to sign and Hearn starts pissing about then im guna have to rip into Hearn, and Joshua. Ive ripped into Wilder plenty lately but if he means what he says and it falls down at the UK end im guna be hugely dissapointed with the Brits.
Wilder deserves the criticism for his technique and to some degree his resume. He isn't the #1 HW in the world, as Joshua earned that fair and square in the ring. That being said, he's doing all he can to make the fights to validate his standing, the circumstances surrounding his current situation aren't his fault. His position here is more than fair.
A guy who demands 7-10m to face Whyte when he's only been earning 1m a fight tops since becoming a titlist can't be taken seriously. Parker has WBO champ only asked fo 4m to go to Russia to fight highly rated drugs cheat Povetkin and yet to he same amount isn't good enough for Wilder to risk his 0 against Whyte. The man is a total joke.
Most fighters, especially those without any real amateur pedigree, are controlled by their team. Pre Stiverne, no doubt he was brought along slow, post Stiverne which fight that fans would want to see has he not done his part to make? He didn't make Ortiz and Povetkin pop dirty, he can't make Parker or AJ fight him...outside of that you're essentially picking the tallest midget so what difference does it make?
No amateur pedigree? He's an Olympic bronze medalist FFS. He could of fought people a lot better on his way up and certainly could have as champ. He couldn't find a single top ten fighter to defend against in all his voluntary defences? BS.
My view on this is he doesn't want to fight Whyte, but the money dictates he really ought to because its a career high payday and worth 3-4 of his usual purses...it'd be madness to turn that away and go take a $1mill fight...that smacks of playing it safe and just keep fighting bums....validating his name of BUMSQUAD. They are and always were playing the long game to a mega ca$h out. His handlers have always been extremely careful in his matchups so far...and seems even after he got a strap they didn't change up on that. Now, on the flip side I do agree with him on this one - if AJ is next up then why not? The fans all wanna see that fight. I believe Hearn is lining Parker up for Feb, the plan is then to come of of that with 3 of the 4 belts (IBO isn't worth a carrot by itself) then surely from there AJ should want to go after Wilder for all the marbles? I do think from AJ's comments the other week when he mentioned his long term career, and even the year 2020 to face Wilder that there is some reluctance. He knows he can make mega money without Wilder so he isn't that bothered about calling him out yet. I think he and Hearn both know its a risky fight that could upset the apple cart...so there might be a plan to milk as many title fights out of his belts as he can before he has to face the big risk that is Deontay Wilder. I think Wilder despite being a windmiller and often seeming very unrefined and flawed is viewed as a huge risk - they know it for sure. The biggest dictator in all sports and boxing is no exception is $$$ is king. Once these 2 guys get it on - one of them is going to be worth a lot less $$$ the day after....and have to rebuild. I do suspect if Hearn opposes Wilders suggestion then its a clear duck...because they know the risks and don't wanna take it yet. That all said I think AJ KO's Wilder inside 6 rounds....I'm pretty sure Wilder doesn't hit harder than Wlad. But styles make fights.....
Who specifically are you referring to (that he should have defended against)? I acknowledged he could have built a better resume on his way up, no arguments there.
Ortiz earlier, Pulev, Takam, Parker, Jennings, Whyte, Chisora, Wlad, Haye. Ya know, people who were actually seen with having a chance of turning up and winning.
Well i hope it isn't just "Joshua next" but instead "Joshua next if I beat Whyte". I have little hope though. Eddie would be delighted with this, and probably wanted to set it up ages ago.
When he chose a shot to pieces Arreola...I would've prefer he'd give a shot to Bryant Jennings...who was also top15 at that moment...at least Jennings gave Wlad a good fight....then he picks Jennings KO victim Artur Szpilka...
