in fact i think people that clown on him are not really Wilder haters if anything we pity him, of what he could of became. This man has world shattering power, arguably the heaviest punch in boxing history....and? he did jack ***** with it, he avoided fighting top guys and padded his reign. He never dedicated himself to learning the finer art of the sweet science, and we all eventually knew he would be exposed some way It hurts that this man could of been an ATG a certified legend of the sport and yet he simply lacks the discipline to make those changes. literally lost potential
He made millions of dollars with what you consider little skill and just made a guaranteed $25 million https://middleeasy.com/boxing/wilder-vs-fury-2-fight-purses/ last weekend. I don't pity that, I envy it. I'm typing this at work right now. Wilder is in a ****ing mansion probably crying in a corvette or some ****. I don't think he is crazy I think we are for clowning on millionaires on the internet. I'll fight @kiwi_boxer mom for that Charles Martin check.
Deontay was such a multi talented fighter. Until he read the criticism on here about his technique by the haters, and tried to change his style to appease the cookie cutter fans that don't like brutal knockouts but pitty pat technical fighters like that scrawny Usyk. I hope Deontay has a explosive device in his costume and blows the arena to hell if the crowd start booing, Deontay don't deserve this!
He clearly has some natural gifts in terms of power, speed and size, but he never had the mindset or self discipline to work on his other weaknesses to ever be anything more than a big guy with a big punch and speed. I wouldn't say he was a waste of potential because he never really showed he could ever reach that potential. Doesn't matter what gifts you have to you still have to put it all together. When I think of wasted potential I think of guys like Bowe who at least for a short period put it all together to beat a future ATG in Holyfield or Mike Tyson who shone so brightly and looked invincible for a few years, but couldn't keep his inner demons or the parasites in the sport from diverting him from his goal without Cus D'Amato. Wilder never could reach that level because of his other flaws, he never looked like the guy he would be a dominant champion to me as he had such glaring flaws and never beat anyone to suggest he ever could.
What potential? Wilder only has athletic talent, but not specifically boxing talent. He has no natural feel for the sport; he has two left feet, no balance, no rhythm, no fighting instincts, only a fast and powerful right hand. Wilder maxed out his potential.
Maxiumum out of his abilities. It all could have ended much earlier, as he bailed himself out with his right with come from behind wins and one draw (if you don't count the sometimes ridiculous official scorecards). His first fight with Ortiz could have ended badly. His first fight with Fury should have ended badly. And his first fight with a consensus top3 opponent did end badly.
No, he maximised his potential if anything. This guy could have easily gone the way of David Price, had his team moved him up too soon, and that would've been the end of him. The fact they kept him back for so long, took calculated risks, and had the good fortune to have those risks pay off is extremely impressive from their end. Remember when Price was full of confidence and destroying tough domestic level guys like McDermott in one round (McDermott gave Fury two very tough fights and arguably won the first)? That was essentially Wilder cut short. I'm not sure what lost potential we have here. Wilder was always a loss waiting to happen, no matter his power.
Bored with all these wilder threads now.. it's boring.. he was always a schooling waiting to happen.. it's not really a surprise what happened
Wilder is very tall and top heavy. Ofcource he couldnt learn anything. He doesnt have the anatomy of a boxer. He started at 19 and he is soon to be 35. 16 years and look how far he has come skillwise. NOT. Is he stupid? Yes but thats not the biggest problem here. His body simply is not made for any motor skills. Its like you had to learn boxing on stilts!! Competing with guys running around you wanna push you slamming to the ground. Even a dumb person would learn something in 16 years. Joshua is similar started at 18 and soon to be 31. Thats 13 years and look at him. Yes he has a higher IQ than Wilder but he is also tall and started late... Has he learned anything? Could he mix it up? From Klitschko to Ruiz 2? Yes and yes. Anatomy wise? Running on stilts? Toothpicks for legs? Tall and topheavy? Balance issues? Coordination problems because of it? Wilder's biggest problem is NOT his IQ! Its his limitations. He should fight at cruiserweight! And No trainer in the world can take away the stilts from him
