Wilder got hit with a good shot just before he put Tyson down in the 12th, he definitely has the ability to take a shot and fire back. I thought he was shaken a few times in the fight though, at one point where Tyson landed a couple of straight rights I was thinking if he landed one more of those Wilder might go down, because he was staggered by each of those punches. At the end of the day even though Wilder is limited skill wise, he is tough, this has to play a part in why he has been champ as long as he has, he needs that as well as power, but lets face it, the toughness and power is pretty much all he has. It can be enough though, it almost won him a fight against a fairly decent, determined Fury.
I dunno about that. Wilder has been hurt by bums.. AJ has the better chin. But there is a huge risk there for AJ.. AJ without doubt could KO Wilder. He hits wayyy harder than Fury.. Fury has lost a huge amount of weight in pretty fast time. I think some power would of been lost and he was never a big puncher at his best. With Tyson's style, always on the move and with him knowing how dangerous Wilder is, it's hard for him to plant his feet, and with his lack of power, it was a hard task to KO/ badly hurt Wilder.
Not a great chin, but good enough to take a shot and recover. Ultimately, though, I think he has more heart than anything. I understand how crude he is in some ways, but the hatred he gets as a "fraud" is dumb. He is anything but. Same with Fury and same with Joshua. This is a strong top three in the super HW era, so people ought to chill out and enjoy it instead of constantly hating on fighters.
Wilder's never been dropped in his pro career. AJ has been dropped and Wilder will badly hurt and drop him for good when he connects with him
Its not like years ago when it was thought one decent blow would be enough to knock him out. He's shown his chin is very solid and it looks like a sustained attack will be required to shatter it.
yeah they have different strengths and it is making the division interesting. We just saw the boxing skill of Fury and Wilder's power, in this case I think Fury's skill won out as he just managed to survive Wilder's power by the skin of his teeth, but you still wonder about the rematch, its possible the dynamic could change a bit. They both stayed in there, Wilder didn't quit, he tried to the end to land and he actually managed it, showing that he is very dangerous throughout the fight.
Why didnt Wilder go for the KO in the 9th or 12th if he didnt respect Fury's power? I'll admit his chin is a bit better than I previously thought but lets not get overblown now...
And Nichols. That one's out there. Of course the hometown refs didn't call it, but Nichols threw a punch and Wilder hit the deck.
