Whoever you "blame," they're having to put together a title fight on a quick turnaround. Only so many opponents available that would do it on relatively short notice (we're in late May, fight will be in July looks like). And all I've seen is a report that Arreaola "seems to be" the next opponent. Certainly nothing official. Could be that DiBella/Haymon reached out to a few fighters to gauge their availability and Arreola is only one of them.
Wilder needed a tune up. I forgot Arreola was so shot. They'd better shove a stick up his ass so that he looks lifelike at the weigh in ...
Sure we CAN blame PEDvetkin. It's a significant financial loss for Wilder. He has to now find an opponent that can net him the most returns. That's probably Areolla, at the moment. Some of the other fighters are higher quality work, than Areolla in his current form. But, they not nearly as profitable, at least in the US. They can do well with this fight on network TV, IMO. Areolla always comes to fight, has a lot of heart and has an exciting style. He has at least a puncher's chance. He will bring out the Mexican fans and the viewers will tune in to see him and Wilder. The fact that a KO is imminent is also exciting to casuals. Not a bad fight, from a financial standpoint. -Al Haymon Jr. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I think it's due to the fact that he brings the latino demographic (ah that darned D word!) to the venue and TV screens.
Short notice is the normal time frame given to Wilder challengers so far. And yes all I've seen is reports I refuse to believe they would go so low to dig up Arreola. We will see soon though. It would be sad if he is the choice.
His next fight is still uncertain so I'll give Wilder the benefit of the doubt for now, but if he actually does fight Arreola next... Arreola is ****ing Arnold Gjerjaj level these days. Drawing with Fred Kassi? Losing several rounds to a complete no-name in Curtis Harper? My God. Haye takes years off and doesn't even have a belt, and still gets **** for taking this level of opposition. Wilder? He should be in his prime right now. What is wrong with this man?
I admit, I'm starting to sour on Wilder. This is ridiculous. The knocks on him are starting to gain legitimacy. I think his last few opponents were underrated, and he certainly can't be blamed for Povetkin's dumb **** failing a drug test. But now David Haye has been eliminated as a possible opponent because Lou DiBela use the excuse of him not fighting high enough level competition. But yet they are considering Arreola, who has fought bus driver level fighters since Stiverne and can't even knock them out. That's really really shady. Why not Louis Ortiz? You tell me. His career is going to go nowhere like this. No reason for him to not fight Ortiz or Haye, Arreola would have been a decent opponent four or five years ago for him, not now. If indeed it winds up being Arreola, I'm done with following Wilder till he fights someone worth a nickel. Arreola is a spoon fed can at this stage of his career.
If this fight doesn't happen then everybody in this thread is going to look stupid. Best thing about Wilder's team is that they do not listen to hardcore boxing fans. That is a virtue.
Arreola is a great opponent for Deonkey. He is way past his best, he will follow orders, and he fall down and make Deonkey look like a KO artist at the right moment. A well timed dive by Arreola will recover some of Deonkeys lost reputation for pulling out of a fight, because someone tested positive for a substance that is not proven to be performance enhancing and that was legal at the time. I would have personally preferred a Dustin Nicholls rematch, but that might have been a bit too dangerous at this stage. Deonkey needs a tune up fight before takes on Nicholls again
