Anyone know what's going on with this? My understanding of the rules is that since Sasha and Stiverne are (presumably still) fighting for the interim title, Wilders next bout would HAVE to be against the winner. Otherwise it would be a non title fight. Why am I hearing rumors about him fighting Hughie or someone else? If he fights Hughie or some other sub top 10 hw again, and it counts as a defense, I think that would break the record (which he probably already owns) for most hw title defenses against non top 10 opponents in history. Very sad, it shouldn't be allowed to happen.

    I disagree....
    1. Heavyweight champions NEVER fight a non-title fight
    2. He will need another fight in early 2017 and before he fights the winner of Povetkin vs Stiverne otherwise he is sitting around waiting for one of them to prepare after their meeting.
    3. The next one should be a competitive warm up fight but not a killer match ... Kyotara of Japan #17 WBC, Zhang Junlong of China (14-0/14 kos) with a variety of minor titles and ranked #15 by WBA or a risky fight against a capable Hughie Fury.

There's no rule that says he has to wait for the Povetkin-Stiverne winner to be ready. If he's good to go by January or February, he can defend his title.

Povetkins likes to take 6 months off between fights. Wilder's schedule won't be dictated by that. Remember, Povetkin fought one round last May and then scheduled a tuneup in October or November and send word to the WBC that he could not be ready to fight in January when he was supposed to fight Wilder and asked for more time.

Wilder will not fight anyone who can fight back.....................WBC will make sure of that and also VADA/WADA.............example, Povetkin was cleared by VADA, yet the WBC refuses to allow that fight to happen, Stiverne tested positive, not cleared, yet that's OK with the WBC, double standard....................Wilder will always fight bums.............

I'd be happy with Jennings or Washington if he wants to fight early 2017. Takam or the winner of Whyte/Chisora would be good too.

That makes no sense. "Interim" is supposed to be champ while other champ is on recess, to be resolved when original champ comes back. Why should Wilder get a soft touch when he gets back. It will have been less than a year. Many champs only fight that often anyway. Hell, Vitali came back after four years and immediately beat the beat non K in the world. Why should Wilder be allowed to demean being a champ by setting a record in having 5 sub top ten defenses in a row. I'm not even a Wilder hater but that would just be shameful.

Pretty sure the WBC said no more optional fights for Wilder and he has to fight the Povetkin-Stiverne winner next.

I know for sure that Wilder´s return date will be announced months before the opponent is. Wilder´s team has been doing this for a while now.

If Stiverne wins the fight with Povetkin, Wilder will fight Stiverne in March.

If Povetkin wins the fight with Stiverne, Grandpa Povetin will need another EIGHT OR NINE MONTHS to prepare for Wilder, and Grandpa Povetkin will say he can't fight until September ... and Grandpa Povetkin will complain that Wilder will want to fight a couple times before that (which the WBC will allow him to do because they like sanctioning fees - after all, that's the only reason we're seeing Povetkin-Stiverne).

So I'll say Wilder's next fight will be either against Stiverne or the winner of Chisora-Whyte. (I'm leaning toward the Chisora-Whyte winner.)

But Grandpa Povetkin won't be ready to fight Wilder that soon. He never is.

Grandpa Povetkin has been trying to get out of a fight with Wilder for almost two years now. He's not going to be in a hurry to fight him now.
