The great irony is... They cocked it all up with Fury - the cherrypick gone wrong.

Regardless of whether it was to try and get more cash off Hearn, it was clearly an attempt to raise Wilders profile and his earning potential, given how mediocre a draw he'd been before that... Had they kept him to bumfighting he could've stayed champ a fair bit longer - but then at some point, you either cash out or miss out.

Ultimately they unknowingly cashed him out against a poor Fury in #1 and a decent Fury in #2 - for less money than they'd have got against Joshua, but more than he'd have made otherwise.

And remember that in Wilder's head Fury cheated him out of the title with the racist conspiracy involving egg weights in the gloves and Wilder's trainer spiking his water. Now that's one, bad cherry pick.

It won't happen obviously. But Makhmudov makes the most sense. Which wild swinging big punching HW comes out on top? That fight would 100% end early and brutally.

Thought about that as well, forget it. Saw a report where if the money is right Wilder will fight in South Korea this fall. The match with Joshua next year is waaay to big a money maker to risk Deontay with a brute like Makhmudov who with a glancing blow wobbles Wilder like a drunk.
Look for another low level Herndon type fighter D+ to C -- level.

Equally... Think of the draw - Makh is known on here, but among casuals he's nobody.

And given Wilder's declining reputation, and ability to sell against bums, it's make more sense to fight someone who would help sell the PPV - especially if it's a risky fight.

For me, Whyte makes a lot of sense.

There's genuine animosity given the long term ducking - and the repeated accusations of ducking (however justified)... Plus they're both pretty shot, and it'd give Wilder an excuse to say he'd have always won if he gets through it - and given how light on contenders his resume is, a shot contender whilst shot himself would be very valuable, surely?

It's risky, Whyte could still stop him, potentially, but it at least pays enough to be worth it.

    Or...

He might well just fight another poor quality bum - there's plenty to choose from.

It wasn't all one way traffic. There was a lot of smoke and mirrors between the Joshua and Wilder camps for a prolonged period of time, the actual details of which we didn't get to hear and are unlikely to ever get to hear.

Anyone who thinks it is entitely Wilder's fault they never met is assuming way too much.

Usyk would be wasting a fight in versusing Wilder but I'm all for it. I want to see Windmills get Bambi'd again.

Wilder passed on $100 million to stay with PBC and that promo is going outta business.

The fight not happening was Wilder's fault.

I think Usyk retires after Dubois - goes out on top. Nothing else left to prove. Wilder isn't even in the top 30 anymore.

I think Wilder needs another tune up before Chisora, because his pressure style is all wrong for Wilder imo.

Against Usyk? No chance. He's simply too good.

I think it probably always was - and at any point Chisora would've given Wilder big headaches with his style, and I would've thought Chisora more likely to win (even if not enough to bet on it)... Either could knock out the other, I just think Chisora would've had Wilder in the right place to throw big overhands without leaving enough space for too many to come back.

Now, though? Chisora is declined too, but Wilder's lost speed and without that I would get on Del now.

If Wilder's going to fight a name for a cash out, and probably get sparked, it needs to be the biggest name he can tempt... AJ might, finally, be the aim after all the ducking - whether it'll happen or not is anyone's guess at this point.

Or maybe he goes back to doing what made him famous - pretending he wants the big fight whilst secretly swerving it and hoping the noise brings eyes to his sideshow bumfights?

That is only one isolated snapshot of the 'negotiating' that went on month after month, year after year. The actual details of which you, like most others, know next to nothing about.

The first victim of boxing negotiations is truth. We mainly only get to hear the lies.
