I guess the tactic of boosting confidence normally is a good thing, but if that's how he is preparing for what's coming from Ortiz then one way or another this fight ain't going to last long.
Apparently Ortiz has brought in Nichols as a sparring partner, hopefully Nichols won't bust up Ortiz too badly...
That why no one gives the worm a gig because getting ktfo by a jab doesn't do you confidence any good going into a big fight..
Southpaw HWs are probably hard to come by...sparring partners aren't always that great. Let's not forget Wlad used Washington to emulate Joshua and Joshua used Wach to prepare for Klitchko long stance of jabbing. As long as he's getting durable guys who can fight southpaw that's all he needs. Its not a contest of trying to out do a top fighters skills. They are there to push you only so much. Big misconception that sparring partners need to be top level guys. You get a few guys that give you bits and pieces of what your opponent does. Of course if you do get a top sparring partner it helps, I remember Holyfield getting Tua for Tyson. Don't know about indongo though..??..probably just giving him tips.
If I was Wilder I would train against someone with a good check jab. That is the blueprint Ortiz is using according to sources inside his camp
I remember when Jameel McCline was going to fight Chris Byrd he couldn't find southpaw sparring partners so he brought Calvin Brock in and asked him to fight southpaw, he had never done it before but he needed the money and said "OK." Then McCline loses to Byrd and next year they set up a fight between McCline and Brock. McCline is trashtalking and he says "we we were in camp I had you on your back THREE SEPARATE TIMES, CALVIN, THREE SEPARATE TIMES!" Calvin Brock was like, "dude, I was fighting as a southpaw."
McCline was a big guy. I remember talking with him before his Klitchko fight , thinking this guys going to get battered....turned out he wasn't half bad fighter back around that time period. He learned to box in prison. Lasted 10 with Klitchko and defeated Briggs the fight before.
Those are just the warm up sparring partners. These are the true sparring partners straight from Wilder's hometown. http://cdn.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFiles/picture/2447893/85252186.jpg
