Wilder has only had two fights against legitimate challengers so far.

He is getting there, but lets be cautious at this stage!

How legitimate would Jim Bradock be today? You are comparing apples to oranges.

With like for like credentials, he would be very legitimate.

It's true, he did not fight the creme de la creme competition Sullivan did .. ;)

    Yes Sullivan did quite frankly.

Whatever you think of the era, he just kept beating the best available challengers, again and again.

How about with like physical assets and boxing ability? I really don't care how he did against the likes of guys named Corn and Tuffy.

Braddock fought in one of the deepest light heavyweight divisions in the history of the sport, so he was fighting people who were far superior boxers than any heavyweight active today.

At heavyweight the least you can say for him, is that he beat Baer, who was not short on physical assets.

Please to inform this humble reader on the greatness of Joe Monte, Herman Heller, Paul Cavalier and Yale Okun, some of the 24 who beat Braddock.

Braddock was a great story, a guy who you would want to root for... and a guy who lost 1/3 of his fights. Let's not overstate his abilities or accomplishments.

I'm not sure anyone questioned if old school (smaller) heavyweights could hit .. Henry Cooper weighed 188 pounds and had Ali the most hurt of his entire career .. the question I believe is how they would match up and that is a combo of their power , their ability to take it in return from bigger men and their ability to land as they were traditionally smaller .. Wilder is a one off as he is 6' 7" with a 83" reach .. he is built like a Praying Mantis .. that being said last night showed that he not only has exceptional power in his right hand but unlike Foreman and Shavers he has stamina and keeps his punch late in a tough bout .. he is a puzzling guy who fights more like an MMA striker than a professional boxer but is a very dangerous fighter when his power is combined with his burning desire and over all excellent conditioning .. time will tell ..

Technique , speed , timing and having the body weight involved in throwing
punches is what creates power. The smaller old school HW had this in spades.
The modern day 110 kg plus HW not so much.

    A possible impact on Baer:

"Early in his career, Frankie Campbell died following his knockout loss to Baer. Years later, Ernie Schaef died following his defeat to Primo Carnera, but most people say it was Ernie's savage beating at the hands of Max Baer only a few months before which resulted in his death."

Braddock is not just some boxer who was played by Russell Crowe.
He was the lineal heavyweight champion of the world. And belongs to a small group of people.
