This thread now takes a sinister turn...... Three of the most epic insane moments in boxing or the fight game must have been the two times in the late 80s when Mr Kleaw Thanikul was almost assassinated first row ringside not once but twice in the late 80s in Lumpinee stadium in Bangkok and when an owner of one of the most influential gyms in BKK Mr Chaiwat Palang Wattanakit of the Hapalang gym was shot ring side in 1988. The first a live hand grenade was thrown at him...he survived. The real video exists but it is in the collection of one of the top promoters in Thailand Mr Songchai, probably never to be viewed again. The vid is a history of Lumpinee stadium Forward to 1.20 to see a reconstruction. This content is protected The second he was shot at ringside...again,,,he survived. This video is on youtube somewhere. I used to have it on my youtube channel until I was closed down. Again the murder of Chaiwat is probably in Songchai's collection, but photos of the aftermath are here about a third down the page: http://www.siamfightmag.com/en/muay...n/1047-story-of-the-mythical-lumpinee-stadium In all cases around 10,000 people were present in the golden age of boxing in Thailand. Mr Kleaw Thanikul was the biggest mafia boss Thailand has ever seen. He was and is considered the godfather of all forms of Thai boxing. He not only had the best stable of MT fighters in Thailand but he ran the Olympic boxing team and promoted fighters like Samart and Khaosai and many other world champion boxers until his assassination in 1991. I lived and fought out of his gym before it closed. Here is a bit of his insane story, its great reading: http://fightland.vice.com/blog/the-rise-and-fall-of-klaew-thanikul-the-mafia-godfather-of-muay-thai
I don’t remember who it was but on an undercard early 90’s in a horrible non-fight, one fighter just ran and refused to engage his opponent. He THREW a total of 6 punches through 7 rounds and was given his final warning before getting dq’d so he finally threw a punch, a body shot, and ko’d His opponent. He appeared to be more surprised than anyone before celebrating as if he was a bad a… in the style I think the character Kip from Napoleon Dynamite (older brother) would someday be modeled after.
Boranbkk's story about the hitmen at Lumpinee Stadium reminded me of this shooting two years ago at a Dublin weigh in. This content is protected
You should have been at the Bowe/Golota fight at MSG years ago. There was a riot, they had to carry Lou Duva out on a stretcher, fans were throwing things into the right, it was a very dangerous place to be. Golota landed low blows, but Ward landed lower blows, yet nothing happened because he was the house fighter. That fight should be reviewed and changed to a disq. ASAP!
