Anyone know anything about Wilf? Seemed like a ******* in the ring, a spoiler. Lost a narrow SD to Ray Robinson, flooring him in the process. In the middle of a losing streak upset Dick Tiger by SD. Lost by a MD to Gene Fulmer, breaking his jaw in the process.
Greaves also had a three-fight series with Blair Richardson for the Canadian middleweight championship. All three fights were wars, from the sound of it, and Richardson won two, which vaulted him into the world rankiings for a while.
I got some newspaper articles of him in my IBRO handbook since I am a memeber of the IBRO. too long to type out........hmmmm i guess i could summarize it.
Wilf Greaves is your dad? That is amazing! I live in Toronto and am a big fan of his -- he beat Dick Tiger! Is there any way I can contact you? My e-mail is This content is protected -- thanks! -Peter
Someone asked me to get some comments from my dad on a couple of his fights. Thought I would post the responses here in case anyone was interested. Eduardo Lausse's punching power - Yes, he was a hard hitter with a strong left hook. However, he couldn't take a punch. Unfortunately, the referee stopped the fight before my dad could take advantage of that. Dick Tiger - For the first fight my dad felt good and was in good shape, and had Dick Tiger's number. For the second fight, my dad said he wasn't up to par and that Dick Tiger had the advantage in that one.
Also came across this article in a 1964 Sports Illustrated, which is a nice history. Sent a copy to my dad and he didn't even know about it. http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1076519/index.htm

No I am not his illigitimate love child , just a big fan of a great fighter . It would be great if you could contact me at This content is protected Thank you very much
BUMP. Anyone know how to contact Greaves or his son, "GG Boxing"? He hasn't posted here in a few years. Roy McHugh is wanting to contact Wilf in order to get verification on a few things for his book. Thanks:good
I used to be in Waste Dispoasal in Vancouver, 1990-91 and there was a small recycling operation just off SE Marine drive and Wilf was the Welder there. The guy that owned it was Vaughn's Disposal and his young brother ran it. the likehood of it still being there is slim, although Vaughn's disposal operated for years, someone in the Vancouver area might know how to get some info through these guys (?). Wilf told me bits about his boxing and his time in Britain, he met and trained with a lot of Scotland's top fighters then. I can't remember if he was still an amature then, fighting in the Commonwealth Games or did he fight for a Commonwealth title! I'll have to check his record!
Yes,you did know Wilf Greaves" quite well ". I saw your dad fight Gene Fullmer at MSG in 1959,losing a close decision to Gene Fullmer, but breaking Fullmer's jaw in the process. Your dad fought everyone those days, ducking no one. A tough guy....
