Someone really needs to upload some decent Kalule footage. Unfortunately I've not seen much of him outside of the Leonard bout, but I've been very intrigued for a while now. He actually looked pretty damn good against Leonard IMO, gave him one of his better scraps.

 

I have absolutely loved this thread. Kalule doesn't get the attention he deserves IMO. Having said that, I would go with Benitez in this matchup in a fight that perhaps only a boxing purist could enjoy. Getting back to Kalule, I agree he was fighting in the wrong weight class. Mogens Palle was once quoted as saying, "I practically have to cut off his leg to make 154." Then why the hell did you do it? Obviously it was a much easier route to the money, but it was the fans who lost out. One has to remember he was already the Commonwealth middleweight champ when they opted for Masashi Kudo rather than go full steam ahead for the 160 lb. crown. And then goes on to defend against a real pack of ordinary fighters. I recall the old scribe Flash Gordon really taking Palle to task over what he was doing to Kalule. I especially remember Flash's line about his opponents which was, "If you fight sh*t, you become sh*t!" No matter how crude Flash's words were, they were true in this case. If Kalule had stayed at 160 he would have been in the thick of it. Can you imagine how cool that would have been, a peak Kalule adding to the mix of Hagler, Antuofermo, Minter, Sibson, etc.?
