Benitez beat Antonio Cerventes, W15, Bruce Curry (Donald's older brother) W10 x2 (Curry gave him hell and had him down 3x), Randy Shields KO6, Carlos Palomino W15, Harold Weston W15, Tony Chiaverini KO8, Pete Ranzany W0, Maurice Hope KO10, Roberto Duran W15, and others. He was stopped with 6 seconds left in the 15th round by Ray Leonard, the fight was pretty close up to that point. He lost a somewhat close decision to Tommy Hearns.

Some of his wins were close decisions but I wouldn't call them gifts. He started very young and after Hearns he was pretty much done, great fighter in his prime though.

Curry beat Marlon Starling W12 and W15, Milton McCrory KO2, he was upset by Lloyd Honeyghan LKOby6, he was stopped in the 5th round by Mike McCallum, he beat Gianfranco Rosi KO9, he was stopped by Michael Nunn LKOby10 and Terry Norris LKOby8 when he was past prime.

Curry was good but he was an underachiever. He was one of the most hyped fighters of my childhood. His first 3 losses were considered major upsets which should be a good indication that people were wrong about how good he was.

Benitez by close decision or late round stoppage, probably decision.
