Mayweather is undefeated but Benitez fought in an arguably better era. They both had similar styles and attributes.

There styles aren't similar there just both defensive geniuses. May is a shoulder roll guy while Benitez is not. Benitez I feel had better reflexes and a much more varied offense.
Both at there best I would rate Benitez higher.

I envisioned a Hearns Mayweather Jr fight and off top of my head thought it'd be like Benitez and saw them fighting similarly so I guess it all ran together in my mind

I'm a classic boxing guy, but I always felt that Benitez was a tad over-rated. As far as Floyd, not really a big fan. Would probably be a dull, tactical fight that could go either way, with maybe a slight edge to Wilfred for maybe taking more chances.

Cervantes and Duran are better wins by far than anything Floyd has.

154 Duran, no. Cervantes, maybe. But there's something to said for doing it for 15+ years.

Accounted himself very well against Hearns. Lame stoppage against Leonard with seconds left. 2 fighters that would have knocked out May.
Palomino Hope Curry Weston all beaten in there primes. The same can't be said for May who's resume is filled with big names who were past it or Canelo who wasn't there yet not to mention all the ridiculous catch weight nonsense.
Benitez didn't fight catch weights or demand what gloves a fighter had to wear or any other nonsense. IMO Benitez was the better fighter.

Well they didn't fight similarly. Mayweather Jr, was a well schooled technique fighter, he didnt depend on his physical gifts he depended on blocking, shoulder rolling, hrs of training until it became instinctive. It's the reason for his longevity in the sport( also, his competition wasn't the greatest at the time he fought them) Benitez was well schooled. But But "The Bible of Boxing". Depended much more on his physicality. Like RJJ, Benitez's reflexes were off the charts. He made two of the fastest boxers in Hearns and Leonard in history look foolish at times in their fights with him even though he lost too both. To me it's all about who you fought, and when did you fight them. Mayweather Jr's best opponent in his prime was D.Corralles No catch weight, both were at the peak of their physical abilities, Mayweather took Corrales apart. But Corrales doesn't come close too Leonard or Hearns in losses, but a helluva showing, or Duran,Cervantes, or Hope, whom Benitez took apart. I go with the fighter who beat somebody when they were somebody, I go with Benitez.

I personally think Benitez was a better fighter fighting better competition but PBF is the greater fighter he simply never lost and that is hard to argue against he was better at his craft than Benitez was at his.....however I do not feel that PBF beats SRL, Hearns or Duran certainly not at 147 but who knows maybe he has a strategy that works IMO his strategy works best against limited fighters who are aggressive but not swarmers I think those 3 were echelons above everyone PBF ever beat....I am not so sure he could make those fights competitive but Benitez did.....the difference for my preference is Benitez like Sweet Pea Whittaker was a master of fighting in the pocket or defending on the ropes no matter where he went he was good.....I was never really impressed in PBF in that way and the most important part was the selectivity of PBF of who he would fight and win where Benitez fought anyone and everyone
