A 17 or 18 year old Benitez was not as good as Whitaker, nor was an 140 pound Chavez anything like the Duran that Benitez faced.

It's hard to believe that this one has never crossed my mind... Benitez by decision.

Benitez by decision definetly he was a defensive wizard in his prime, hes got the skills to outbox him but Chavez would go the distance

Benitez `El radar` might be a little too slick for Chavez. He was also strong at that weight. Couldn`t you almost envision Cahvez following Benitez to the ropes, licking his chops when he got him there. And the watching Benitez work his underated (yes underrated) defensive wizardry on a shocked Chavez ? Benitez was great in close quarters, flashy hands. I think he could outfinesse him inside, and from the outside forget it. Benitez 15 rd UD

Does the Carlos Palomino fight not put some doubt into the heads of the guys that favour Benitez?

Carlos had Wilfred on the ropes for plenty of time in that fight and quite truthfully really pushed Benitez close I feel.

Carlos is a good fighter, and quite a bit bigger than Chavez, but we are talking about a fight at 140 here and really, I can't see Benitez lying on the ropes and getting a decision against Chavez. Chavez's body work is much too educated.

Benitez would win this going away, the only man i've seen make Hearns miss considerably, the other great defenders could not have done that like Pea and Floyd,Chavez is knowhere near that skill, speed,or power level, not to mention Wilfred was very very fast at 140 and bigger and stronger than Chavez with very decent power,no chance for JCC.
