I love this match to an irrational degree. Benitez was an otherworldly talent but he would need to be perfect because his chin was just average. And I think he would be.
Could be Jackson-Graham all over again. But, at his best, Benitez probably avoids getting caught like that and wins a decision.
Depending on which benitez is in the ring, if he's sharp and focused a decision win. If he not then Jackson catches him mid fight and cold **** s him
Wilfred supposedly only trained 3 weeks or so for the SRL fight, Wilfred being so over confident with his title on the line. Sad, his record could have been 15% better, with both Duran and SRL as notches on his belt.
Benitez of the Duran fight wins decisively on points. Of course he would not be able to get caught square even once.
Jackson was a natural 154-160 pounder. Benitez beating natural 140 pound Duran is one thing but beating Jackson is another. Jackson by early round KO.
I'd forgotten how much Graham was schooling Jackson before he was sparked. I think Benitez at his absolute best could pull this off, but anything less especially as he's also giving away weight and size then he's knocked out.
He was better than Jackson in every way except power. Sure, there's a chance he might get caught by a homerun shot, but the odds are he'd comfortably outbox Jackson.
Benitez was way more skilled, but Jackson was much, much more powerful, and bigger in terms of reach, height and probably weight (looking at them at 154 I can't believe they were the same weight in the ring) and never lost due to being outboxed anywhere close to his prime. Even master boxer McCallum, who was bigger than Benitez and had a sturdier chin, went down into the trenches rather than box Jackson. Jackson was no Barkley. He didn't throw wide, telegraphed punches. He had absurd power but also very fast and compact punches. A ****ing nightmare to purely outbox.
