Interesting. Tough fight to call. Hard to say for a bunch of reasons. I haven't seen Benitez versus anyone resembling what Manny was at 140 or 47 and the southpaw element really makes this one hard to call but I'm gonna go with Benitez. If he was able to outpoint Duran over 15 then i get the feeling Pac would have suffered a similar or worse fate.

But wasnt very similar to Pacquiao.

I know people might think I am underrating Pacquiao here, but Benitez would school Manny here, he just has to watch out for the punch IMO.

Manny Pacquiao outworks the somewhat uninterested Benitez. You don't straight up outbox a guy like Pacquiao. You need to fight him. You need world class boxing skills and you need to fight him with them.

Benitez' legacy has soured over the yrs cuz he stayed on WAY TOO long......

Had Benitez had better management and held onto his cabbage patch, he should've retired after his skills went south in 1983 when he lost to Musty Hamsho at 160 pounds...

Yeah, we all know that Benitez won a string of meaningless fights from 1984 thru to roughly 1990, but he got his ass kicked in all his big fights from the middle to late 1980s....

Dude's like "Benitez, Cuevas and Tyson" are three dude's that I can honestly say were pretty faded and shot by age 25 or 26......

**** it, I'll take 1978 Benitez to out-point Packy over 15 rds at 140 pounds......

Marquez though, who doesn't have great mobility or movement, outmaneuvred him to death in their first fight, which i scored for Marquez clearly.

Do we not pick the best version of fighters for these hypothetical HTH's? Is that not rule of thumb? i.e. Montreal Duran

I've never actually gone through rounds and scored those fights, but i cannot see an argument for either of them clearly winning. And i dont think he outmaneuvered him in an outboxing sense(which would definatley be Benitez' tactics), Pacquiao brought war and Marquez accepted his challenge

Haha, young one, if you think i'm an advocate of the term 'Montreal Duran' then you simply have never read a post of mine on that subject. I absolutely hate that term being used as it reeks of bias and favouritism. Look at my posting history soft arse.

So that attack was safely avoided.

Also, i haven't commented on who i think will win this fight at all yet. I don't know why you're being so defensive. I was simply directly replying to your statement about what is apparently needed to beat Manny Pacquiao.

If that old story about Willie Pep winning a round without throwing a punch is true, then at the time of submitting this post, i know how he must have felt.

    Epic fail Pachilles.

    PS- he clearly outboxed him,

Bra, okay then it seemed that you were coming at me with a typical stab at Duran or an admirer of his. But if you wasn't, then you were applying a logic to a poster that doesn't agree with it. I'm not into the Montreal Duran/88 Tyson/Curry from anything but the Honeyghan fight etc etc thing. I think it's wrong. My method is to look at the fighter's career and draw conclusions on his relative strengths and weaknesses in order to try and determine how a hypothetical match-up would go. That's why i mentioned the Marquez fight but didn't say that it's influence is conclusive in terms of the outcome of this fight. Pacquiao has a chance, but i do lean towards Benitez now that we're actually discussing it you stupid virgin twat:lol: (joking)

Interesting match up. Pacquaio has the same sort of speed advantage Leonard/Hearns had over Benitez, which Benitez's countering/boxing style had problems coping with, he simply got beat to the punch by those men. Now Pacquaio isn't as rangy, and he doesn't have the jab but the speed disparity is still there. And there's the power/workrate that Pacquaio has

Benitez has the style that gives Pacquaio nightmares, fast counter punching, slick boxing hit and not getting hit style. He also has a great right hand, the punch that Pacquaio eats, Pacquaio has looked great since he stopped fighting men with great straight right hands. We saw what Marquez did to Pacquaio, Pacquaio hasn't really changed that much since then

I see Benitez's skills, great defense and cleaner less telegraphed work being the difference in another tight decision for El Radar. Benitez better be at his best though, if he gets too lazy Pacquaio will run away with it
