I'd list Benitez as a greater fighter but think this comes down to styles. Winky would be perfectly content jabbing for 15 rounds. I'd give it to Winky fairly comfortably.

Winky could very well be the guy who would be capable of "pulling a Sammy Angott" and beating Whitaker. I think he just may have the style for it.

Hard to go against an ATG.
Winky don't have enough of what it takes to beat "The Radar"
    as a Jr. Middleweight. IMO

Wilfred Benitez by UD [Possible late Stoppage]

Wilfred Benitez doesn't have the punch or the punch output to stop a prime Winky Wright.

what a great match up dpw,

i am thinking benetiz may have the speed to take a close decision,

wright had trouble against ackward fighters in soliman and mckart as well as volume fighters like simon.

its is a very tossup fight though, wins over mosley and trinidad show greatness

    Benitez stopping Wright?

    That's laughable.

Benitez should win a decision if i was a betting man. However, it comes down to if Winky can land his jab and left hand on Benitez as easily as he does against other fighters. Winky's plan of attack is simple, it's whether he can land consistently against the BIBLE OF BOXING that is the question.

I'd probably give Wright the edge overall, but if Benitez shows the top form he did against Leonard and some of his winning efforts then it becomes very much a tossup. Benitez remains a very underrated fighter.

Wright via hardfought decision (but with money firmly in pocket).

Winky doesn't have the busy workrate to defeat Benitez. His good boxing skills alone won't do the job. The way to beat a prime Benitez is good boxing skills along with speed & aggressiveness. Much like Leonard & Hearns did, to try & overwelm Benitez. Winky usually only fights as hard as he has to. & if Benitez has time to set himself in a defensive posture, he will pick you apart. Benitez easy 15 round decision.
