just to let you know....he wasnt just a titlist in 3 divisions, only at 154 where the linear title ended when Sugar Ray vacated the title
He was Lineal at 140. Youngest Champ in history at 17 years old. At 147 he was also Lineal Champ, before Leonard. At 154 I don't think he was Lineal Champ. He was beltholder after Leonard vacated the Lineal Title. Then he was defeated by Hearns, who became the Lineal Champ because of that fight. Is that right? :think
Yeah, I wasnt saying he was linear at 154, but that the linear title became vacant after Leonard went back down after the Kalule fight...to fight Hearns I believe. Hearns became the man at 154 by beating Benitez and Duran
Wilfred was special, and never we will see one like him, 3 division Champ..youngest champ ever beating Kid Pambele who before fighting Wilfred was KO'ing everyone for 4 years...fight of the year of his KO of Maurice Hope by winning his 3rd title....He was lineal at 140 and 147..and if Kalule would ahd fighted him he would ahve been linear on all 3
He was one of the most naturally talented boxer's I've ever seen. His reflexes and head movement were unmatched. Too bad he didn't like to train
Preatty much..din;t have too...if that sound correct...he had natural stamina, he had the movement and he was a natural...his father Gregory Benitez was a masterful trainer in PR...boxing royalty in PR Frankie and older borhter Gregory...but Wilfred was the cream of the cream!!!
