Hearns I. But it's closer than people often make it out to be. So slick it'll make a casual's stomach sick. [yt]qq6ZLecsWyU[/yt]
I read that in the 80's. It may have been a writeup in on of the mags, suggesting he always had a mild ******arion or that he was just not very bright
atsch How could I forget, I liked the Benitez bout for the sheer intensity and slickness involved. In the Hearns bout Leonard was getting his ass kicked at times, it demonstrated to me he could be badass when he needed to. So damn versatile. If puts me off when I hear his high pitched non threatening voice yet he's a killing machine in the ring. The Old-School cats knew how to do it right and do it well. :yep p.s. I can't stop laughing at the pre-fight press conference for SRL-Duran: "I'm not just going to hurt Duran, I'm gonna kill him." ****-Just-Got-Real moment right there.
People would literally be shitting their pants if SRL, Hearns, Benitez were active in today's internet age of boxing. Look at the ****ing hysteria over Rigondeaux's win over Donaire (Granted, it's the best of the decade thus far and could probably remain that way). It was considered a miracle a fight like Alvarez-Trout got made.
True Slick Blackness from Benitez. This content is protected **** minus.com they havled there quota I can't upload big gifs.
He spent a little less than 7 years as one of the most skilled and boxing smrtest boxers ever. In which he managed a 44-2-1 record. I don't understand how anyone can consider his career as short or disipointing.
I always thought Leonard largely won most of the rounds against Benitez, who was still competitive. I thought it was clear as day that Leonard won though.
Damn, he was slick. Maybe he did it just right, party and train a little, I mean, can you imagine him being any greater than he was? Maybe any more training for him would be to much
You're not alone. Still a very competitive chess match. Depending on the day, I rate it as high as being SRL's second best win. Everything needed for it to be a great win is present, I guess aside from the claim Wilfred "didn't train" which I think is preposterous honestly. Duran II? Okay, fine. This instance?
It's really silly to me how anyone could have Leonard getting "schooled" as I've seen people say in the past, or saying Leonard was losing the fight up until he stopped Benitez. He was controlling the fight.
Benitez was as good at getting under the right hand as anyone when sharp. He rarely used his good footwork as well as he should have though. imo it was obvious he didn't care against Hamsho.Just sat in the corner, when he had more than enough chops to move around him with his feet.Should have been DQ'ed for non-effort(and Hamsho probably for being a dirty ******* too)
Yes, Hamsho should have been DQd for sure. Can you imagine being a killer like Hearns with that kind of reach and height advantage while having Benitez backed into a corner and not being able to land. That is and always has been one of the greatest examples of defense Ive ever seen. Hearns was in his prime there, fighting at his best weight, and was a very fast puncher and Benitez was making him miss for long stretches at a time.
True, it was as good a defensive performance as any. Straight punching, quick one-two's are usually the best way to get to a great defensive fighter and not many were better equipped there than Hearns, which makes it even more impressive.
