Either man could edge it at 140...but I'll Benitez by comfortable UD at 147.

I actually think Benitez, a lot of the time, looked better at 140 and 154 than 147, even though he's primarily thought of as a Welterweight. He holds no advantages there that he wouldn't hold at 140, so I don't really see it being any different. Whitaker's jab and greater workrate are generally what lead me to believe he'd just edge a matchup between the two, though Benitez's height could play a factor.

Benitez wins at 147, Sweet Pea Whitaker at 140, both extemely close matches.

    Agreed.

Although tough to predict a loss for Whitaker at all, who I thought was nearly as phenomenal at 147 as he was as undisputed 135 champ; just having accomplished a little less historically.

to answer the thread question..I'd say this one would be nipped by a hair by the Pea..though it could have been a draw.

No Cobra...not acres better...you're underestimating the young Benitez.

No, other Cobra with a distinguished red hue, Pernell was acres better.

I'm not saying he's a full square mile better, just a few acres. Like 3 acres. 4 at most. 5 is right out.

It isn't seemly for two cobras to argue.

At 140 Whitaker would get on the inside and body work him to a UD.

At 147 with a diminished workrate it's a little harder for Whitaker, but I'd probably still back him to edge it.

pretty much how I see it. And at 154 absolutely Benitez. In reality, this might have been a very boring fight to see who can actually land a punch.
