    Family fun games and all food all day. It's funny. Every year I make a Merry Christmas thread where I wish EVERYBODY a blessed Christmas, friends, foes and all. Everybody else generally does the same and every yr the mods 86 the thread and get rid of it.
    The idea by me is to say to all that all the fighting, putdowns, etc both ways are fun and we're all lucky to have each other to bounce our collective love of boxing off of. And every year it is pulled.s

    If benitez was a natural lightweight like Duran it would never have been close; and benitez was tough to beat

    Duran didn't suck.

    He's an ATG.

    Benitez simply had his number at 154.

    Just because I pointed out in that other thread that the style Duran used in 81 in what you thought were great performances against Gonzales and Minchillo was ineffective against Benitez, it does mean I am denigrating Duran's overall great legacy.

    When you are pinned down with logical arguments, you make unfounded claims against those who have oumaneuvered you - with spurious arguments and ugly font, to boot.

    Very true.

    I will say that he really was flat and seemingly unmotivated in the Laing loss. Lang's speed was also a big factor. That is one loss where I could say an excuse was valid.

    I can't see any valid excuse for the Benitez loss as Duran seemed motivated but was simply outfought by a bigger, faster and stronger and better defensively, opponent.

    Duran is probably one of the last fighters that need any excuses though right? Here's a guy that turned pro in '68 all the way to this fight in January '82 only lost 3 fights. He fought alot of good fighters from '30 up to '54.
    Unless acknowledging a guy is past his prime is an excuse. Then that raises a ton of questions about alot of other boxers.

    First of all nobody was calling Davey Moore mediocre before he fought Duran. He was a rising star. Why do you think Moore was favored? Barkley isnt considered great but he was very good and had just KO'd a great. I also dont know anyone who considers Ray Leonard mediocre. His team made a few excuses after he lost.
    Like I posted before Duran doesnt need any excuses. Had he retired in 78 he would still have been first ballot.
