He had 11 fights. Making him more than he was. I was excited about him and he was good amatuer, but I didn't think he was established yet. His management rushed him a bit. He beat the japanese guy and had some good wins and Kalule, but he was overrated as 11 fights would do. And he also unestimated Duran and fought him too much and stopped using his speed but he did lose. But Moore was not Hearns or Benitez. Now you will mention Moore and how he beat Benitez-ankle injury similar to Rene Jacquot?. The thumb did not help, but I cannot say that was the cause.. Good post.. Ray, Ray was not mediocre, but Ray in my mind was not great yet. He had not proved much except that fight with Wilfred.

All bull**** aside, we may agree nothing but the love of boxing but thats enough. We are already almost outcasts(at least here in the Midwest USA) trying to find another who gets into the sport. So to me we are all family and no insults to me are ever hurting and those I give out are in fun and no more than me and my friends do throughout the years. So to a 'll Merry Christmas.

he didn't need them but he sure used them a lot. He was a great fighter, but he did lose and his ego made up a lot of excuses. If you are not prime you are either pre or past and he was so natural he could have fought at 60 when Leonard could not have. Once Ray's speed left his career was finished. Like the Norris fight.. I don't think being past someone's prime is a bad thing and needs excuses. Hopkins and now Pacman do pretty well and Pacman is 41 now. 9 years older than Duran was when he fought Hearns.

There guys here call what I say as hate or even trolling. I wouldn't know what trolling is. I think Duran's excuses are so obviously as ways to save his ego, but his fans actually believe it. Who knows if Duran does. I doubt it.. I always said Duran was great. I wish fighters would not use excuses. It diminishes the opponent.

I like all of them. Moore was something else. He lost to Duran, but he was not a great fighter and I think the flaw he showed against Duran would have eventually come up. He was never was the same. I remember that fight he had against Drayton in was in Monte Carlo I think in 1985? That is a guess. It was on one of the networks and he lost. Barkley was a motivated and hard puncher, but a little reckless and easy to hit. He beat Hearns in 1988 on a lucky punch, and in 1992 he beat him legit because Tommy could not move his legs anymore, but that is an excuse and I don't like them. So I will say he beat Tommy. But that 1992 fight against Hearns ruined him. He was hit too much and I don't think he ever recovered and neither did Tommy. Duran would have been on the first ballot. Duran thinks he needed the excuses he is the one who always made them. Barkley had a good style of throwing punches in the middle of exchanges where he is getting nailed. Van Horn, even Toney were hit. Toney says that was the hardest punch he ever took. So he could punch.
