Just a sad situation to see such an iconic fighter like this. The article in the Ring links to some video in PR news.
    Its really sad.

I saw it and also did some snooping of my own. Gomez has been in a crappy relationship with this woman for 4-5 years and but always resisted help or advice, being that he’s a proud man. I was told everyone told him and he accepted that she was trouble, “mentally ill, evil, possessive.” Gomez went about a year without speaking to his kids. He was waiting on some “money owed” and was gonna break it off but it sounds like she was either holding him against his will or completely controlling over him. Maybe she’s trying to steal what assets he has left? He owns the house they took him from and also a gym. His son said she was stopping him using a medicine or getting a treatment he needs for a condition he has.

It’s expected he’ll bounce back. Hopefully he gets the help he needs because his legs looked swollen and his mind vacant. He’s been fat for a long time but looked very bad yesterday. Gomez was in a very bad place in the 90s, but married a good woman, cleaned himself up, but I heard he had some domestic issues with her and she moved to Orlando. He had pneumonia and other health scares. He’s obviously been with a very bad woman here who’s put him down a bad path.

I plan to be in Puerto Rico in the fall and to see Gomez if he’s accessible and will do a signing with him which will help him make money. I will post up something here maybe a month before my travels.

I hope he gets the help he needs. Bad enough that Wilfred Benitez is in bad shape as it is.

    Good man.I support this.

Apparently his ex wife amongst others were the ones who called 911 in this case.

She is still his legally married wife and she still has his best interests at heart. She came from Florida and was very emotional when talking to TV. Gomez smiled when he saw her and his son. Sounds like his life was hell for a while now.

Apparently the blood and urine tests came back fine and he’s cracking jokes and smiling. Unless he goes back to this crazy woman I think his family will make sure he’s in safe hands whether that’s in Puerto Rico or Florida, where his wife has offered to take him in, just as his son has in PR. He’s a proud man still capable of making his own decisions though. Let’s see.

I saw an update on Twitter today saying he is doing better, he is getting treatment for whatever his condition is and responding. It was pretty vague but encouraging.

A real pity, but hopefully he's gonna get better now.
I watched a documentary on him a couple of years back. Aside from being badly overweight he seemed to be doing okay.
I had no idea about this.

God I hate to hear this. One of my favorites. If there was some sort of fund, I would gladly donate.

I assume that was the Bazooka: The Battles of Wilfredo Gomez? I think at the point of the documentary he was still living with his wife and was doing well enough. A lot of this has happened since that doc came out.
