Honestly though I'd rather just wait to see how Inoue does when he moves up to 122. Gomez was never beaten at 122 pounds. The only time he's ever lost was when he moved up to Featherweight and above. Given his destructive reputation and how good he was at his best it only makes sense to favor Gomez over Inoue, although I think Inoue would be a competitive fight for him.
It's ok that you like modern fighters, but that's not keeping it "real". Gomez was a MONSTER who had it all at 122.
Inoue thinks he will be bigger, faster, and stronger at 122. That's a truly frightening proposal for the 122 division if true. If Inoue smokes Fulton and Ahkmadaliev, how will that change your outlook against Gomez?
It depends on how Inoue looks, I'm not going to jump into conclusion right away until we actually see it happen. As is Gomez is numero uno at 122.
There's nothing wrong with admiring the past. Competition was just more stacked back then. And Gomez really was a monster in his prime.
It wouldn't change anyone's opinion. That's the whole point of these scenarios. Fulton and Ahkmadaliev are not ATG's so beating them is not relevant. In turn, Gomez beating good but lesser fighters is not relevant. My original post says that I chose Gomez to win because he has beaten some prime all time greats while Inoue has not had that opportunity. Hopefully, Inoue will get a chance to do that and we can get a better gauge on him from an historical point of view.
