Gomez would have crushed MAB at 122...and I love MAB...in a more comprehensive way than even Pac did.

    Oh dear.

No-one was saying in 1978 when undefeated champion Zarate challenged Gomez that he was past his prime because he wasn't. He just lost to a greater fighter.

In 1982, no-one was saying reigning batamweight champion Pintor was past his prime because he wasn't. If anyone was past his prime at that point, it was Gomez. And he won, because he was a greater fighter.

You won't get any argument from me about Marco Antonio Barrera - he proved his greatness, but to say Barrera was more skilled than Gomez? That's just ignorant. I suspect you haven't watched much of Gomez if that's your view. As for your comments about Hamed - that's just embarrassing to believe that.

Gomez is not overrated, nor is Marco Antonio Barrera. They are both recognized as great fighters. But most people would consider Gomez the greater of the two. I know you think you have some special perspective and that because everyone else says one thing, you feel a need to say the opposite but sometimes a lot of people saying the same thing is because it is transparently obvious.

To underrate Gomez (or other demonstrably great fighters like Barney Ross) because everybody else rates them (justifiably) highly only makes you look foolish.

What is it about Barrera that you rate that you can't recognize in fighters like Gomez and Ross? They were all great (albeit in different ways) but somehow you fail to see it in two of those fighters but can see it clearly in the other one. This is why people think you are a troll.

If you're not, provide a convincing argument rather than making demonstrably false statements to disparage genuinely great fighters.

Detailed, eloquent contributions are futile with you...the whip and a chair approach works fine.

Zarate was in bad shape? After this loss he had a further 15 fights winning 14 of them 12 by stoppage the only loss was a robbery split dec to Pintor .
A surprised Lupe Pintor took the WBC bantamweight championship from Carlos Zarate, 117 1/2, yesterday with a split decision that caused a gasp when it was announced. Pintor, who had been standing quietly in his corner, opened his mouth in obvious surprise when the verdict was announced at the end of the 15 round fight at Caesars Palace. Zarate, however, showed little emotion at the decision although he did cover his head with his gloves. Pintor, who weighed the class limit of 118, went down in the 4th round from a right-left combination to the head. There were no other knockdowns. In the 10th round Zarate bloodied Pintor's nose and in the 11th opened a cut above the new champion's left eye. Zarate appeared to be on the defensive through much of the fight. Pintor kept moving him back and most of Zarate's blows were counter-punches. And this aggressiveness obviously paid off in the eyes of two judges. He threw hard, fast punches and concentrated on the head." -Associated Press
    • Purses: Zarate - $150,000 (app.), Pintor - $40,000 (app.)

    Unofficial scorecards

    • AP - 147-138 Zarate
    • Boxing Illustrated - 144-142 Zarate
    • International Boxing - 9-4-2 Zarate (IB opting to score it on a rounds basis)
    • Ring Magazine - 145-138 Zarate

As usual. You don't know WTF you're talking about !
