Wilfredo Gomez vs. Orlando Canizales

Maurice Hope is one of his best wins IMO. Brutal kayo of a very good 11 stone fighter.

Out of Cervantes and Palomino I prefer the latter.

 

Both these two had some of the best technical footwork ever.

Gomez was significantly declined as a stylist by the Pintor fight though.i can see how someone would be relatively underwhelmed watching that fight if they expected to see awesome technical skills.It was more about showing his heart and will to win when not at his sharpest anymore.

Pintor was primed and never the same after it.

 

I like watching the hearns fight. Even when benitez looses watching dodge the punches hearns was throwing at him was amazing. There's a crazy sequence where hearns has him in a corner, tries to hit him with his whole arsenal and can't land anything solid(missing just by a hair). Hearns just backs away from the corner an waits for benitez to follow him.

 

Gomez at his peak was cruel, gifted *******, One of my favorite fighters of all time. He was just perfect vs Zarate...just perfect.

 

Canizales had a very solid chin, but I don't think it holds up all night against Gomez. And chin is literally the ONLY thing Canizales had over Gomez.

Gomez TKO 11... pretty one sided too.

 

I miss so many of the posters and insights and dialogue that we used to have on this forum.
