Gomez, too big at JF as proven vs Zarate. Gomez was a killer at his peak.

Amen to that. As complete a fighter I guess, for a time as I've ever seen.

He had all the brutal power of these guys while also having a skill advantage IMO, peak early Gomez was a masterpiece. He was almost akin to a peak Roberto Duran, with even more power.

Oliveras was one of my favorite fighters at his peak. But Gomez was better, too big, strong and slick for Oliveras.

If he was almost like a peak Duran, does that mean Sanchez was p4p better than Duran?

He fought Sanchez at his 122 peak, did he?

That said, I don't really think Gomez was a more powerful puncher than Duran, even pound for pound. Both were the accumulation type.

Seems like I am the only one, but then again I am not as high on Gomez as most are...

    Olivares by decision.

Agree but Duran carried his clout higher. As incredible as Gomez was I'm happy saying I rank Duran higher on my 'best fighters ever seen on film' even if Duran is in the 1-3 bracket and Gomez the 6-8.

    That's 'fair' isn't it?

I'll roll with LittleRed, that's a nice call.

Very tough to say...Have to agree a bit with those who say that Gomez's size, power, and technical may just be too much...BUT two things to consider (imo) how would Gomez have done against an absolutely lethal Arguello at featherweight? Olivares showed plenty of technical savvy, footwork, and punch variation to keep that featherweight terminator at bay for awhile...and another thing, I think Olivares is far better than Pintor...who gave Gomez life and death.

Well, if we're talking about the Gomez that fought Pintor you'd have a point. I was under the impression we were talking about a prime Gomez.
