I don't think so. I know he had a good chin, but I don't think any crowder stands a chance of going the distance with Gomez. Curiously, there are a couple of guys who post here who do not consider Gomez to be an elite puncher and tell me off when I talk about his frightening power, so I will be curious what they have to say.
McCullough was fortunate to not come across a killer like Gomez. His style would play right into Gomez’s hands and Gomez would have made easy work while busting him up to a late round stoppage. The reason McCullough lasted the distance with a puncher like Naseem was because he didn’t have the offensive variety or aggression to stop him, and he mainly boxed safely. Gomez wouldn’t let McCullough last 12 rounds.
McCullough under achieved as a pro. Hbo had big plans for him when he got upset by Zaragoza. Gomez wins but I’ll give Wayne the benefit of the doubt to see the final bell. He lasted distances with Zaragoza, Erik Morales and Naseem Hamed. Wayne was never knocked down in his career. Might he be maybe but I’ll say the tough Irishman lasts the distance
Wayne is one of my all time favorites and Bazooka is one of those that I dislike the most, but granite chinned Wayne probably gets stopped here.
