Lockridge won easy- a terrible decision. Clearly one of the worst of the decade. The very few that did score for Gomez, who weren't declared clinically insane, seemed to be convinced because Wilfredo was "having a go". The fact that, despite his efforts, he was still losing round after round after round, was obviously lost on them.

Not really. I don't think it was an easy fight to score and rounds were up for debate in it. For all I know the 2 rounds my copy was missing would have been scored to Lockridge and he would have been a 116-112 winner, is that what you had it?

    That seems fairly comfortable.

It was pretty clear Rocky was robbed imo.

The Lupe Pintor fight solidified Gomez's status as an ATG because of the champion's heart he had to show to win it, but for mine, Gomez's most impressive display was his beat down of Juan Laporte. Gomez was already a little past his prime, and he wasn't as technically sharp as he was in his earlier career, but he put a savage beat down on Laporte.

Juan gave the likes of Sanchez, Chavez, Pedroza and Nelson all they could handle, but Gomez was possessed the night he fought him. Wilfredo shockingly was able to hurt Laporte and keep him timid pretty much the whole way through, all the while giving him a lesson he'll never forget.

I remember that era when Gomez was the 122 lb champ, back in the late 70's...and I saw a clip of the Gomez-Zarate fight (miraculously shown on a local tv sports report) and I was blown away...Gomez was like a killer cat the way he moved aound the ring with Zarate in pursuit..but always in striking position..and then he struck, and DESTROYED this guy who was the terror of the bantamweight division..this was most impressive to me..Gomez, at least before the Sanchez nightmare, was amazingly gifted..a fantastic fighter..he had it all.
