I saw this fight live at the time on USA Tuesday Night fights. It was a big upset as Vasquez was well established and Contreras was fairly unknown outside of Latin America. Just a perfect counter right off the ropes. Contreras did go on to beat the tough Luisito Espinoza for the WBA 118 lb. title but fizzled out shortly thereafter, being upset by the defensively deficient Eddie Cook in a major upset. He was not heard from again after that loss.
