This fight doesn't get enough attention when it comes to great fights. I urge anyone to check this brutal battle. Lots of heart and will from both fighters. What a fight!

Thanks Flo - just watched it. Heck of a good fight.

Now, I didn’t score it so I can’t say whether the official scoring was off but my take was that Vasquez won and won pretty clearly. I know you can’t automatically make a verdict by looking at someone’s face and saying ‘he was unmarked and the other guy looked like his face had been through a meat grinder’ but I think the damage caused to Muguruma was clearly from the sharper punching of Vasquez.

The Japanese fighter was the aggressor but Vasquez was boxing well off the ropes and countering him expertly. So, I can see some of those early rounds going to the hometown fighter but his attacks became less effective as the fight wore on.

Again, I don’t want to judge the scoring without scoring it myself but the impression I had was that Vasquez deserved the win here.
