Seems to be a underrated fighter. Was a 3 weight world champion. Boxed for 21 years and fought the some of the best of his era. Also have heard didnt start boxing until around 20 years of age. Would be nice to hear some about him from you guys, and can anyone confirm that he started boxing at around 20 years of age?
Well, Vasquez was damn good, although I haven't seen the Canizales fights (stupid considering I rate Canizales highly) But what I have seen is this, footage of an even more underrated fighter, Khaokor Galaxy, beating Vasquez pretty soundly, strangely ruled a SD. You can see for yourself, Khaokor wins fairly clearly. I see Vasquez as similar to Zarate, rangy and tall for a Bantam with a nice jab, but without the requisite punching power that Zarate had to make him cmpletely effective. From what I have seen he was a decent boxer, but fairly straightforward in terms of style. I will have to see his battles with Canizales, maybe will give me a better indication of how good he could be, but then people see those fights as controversial. I think this split decision is pretty contraversial, except for the fact that it's actually in GALAXY'S hometown. Khaokor being the more talented but lighter-hitting twin of Khaosai.
