If Williams is as great as everyone makes him out to be why did he barely escape from Margarito. Who is maybe #5 or #6 in my list of WW

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that Quintana shocks the WW division by barely beating Williams yet the judges give it to Williams based on his hype. I just dont see anything special other than physical things and Stamina. A good boxer or a power puncher should beat him.

I know Williams is the heavy favorite, riding his current heatwave and all, but from what I've seen of both this could be very competitive. Quintana is on a much higher skill level IMO (not an even one as suggested by someone earlier in this thread), and a greater depth of experience against quality opposition - but does have severe physical hurdles to overcome.

I don't think draw is the likeliest outcome, but am selecting it to represent how even and dependent on intangibles this is.

Based on styles Margarito was probably the hardest fight for Williams on a head to head basis. Comparatively speaking the rest of the division is his for the taking and therefore Quintana doesn't really even register as a difficult fight for him. He's going to beat the hell out of poor Quitana and either stop him or make him quit.

One question off of that tho....

Williams has beaten Margarito....but who has Quitana beaten? Joel Julio?

I dont go with the "look who this guy beat" train of thought, but you cant use it against one fighter, when it further weakens the other fighters case that you yourself are trying to make.

Like I said in my original post. Williams is too big, too strong, too fast, too busy...he will win comfortably. I dont see Quintana finishing this fight.

Yeah, he beat that hype job Julio who was subsequently almost starched by COSME RIVERA and got a gift decision instead. Rivera incidently was that dude that Judah blew out in a few rounds.

I think that's a little harsh. Quintana's only lost to Cotto, who blitzed him. Williams isn't Cotto and isn't going to do anything stylistically similar to what he did that night. He is big, strong, fast and busy - those are obvious hurdles, but I've not written Quintana off to the point where I can't see him jumping them. He will have to be motivated and sharp, no less than 100% to make it to the last bell, no doubt - Williams is dangerous - but if it does go that far (and I think it might), Quintana could very well pick up a points win.

And honestly, as 'best wins' Margarito and Julio are about par (as are their respective second-best, Cassiani and old Sharmba). :yep

I'll take Williams to win, but if the line is something stupid like +600 Quintana, I'll bet on him. I'd say Williams is about a 65% favorite or so.

    That's very fair and sensible.

I don't think Williams is untouchable like a lot of people. Margarito had him hurt several times in the fight, he just couldn't seem to get him out of there. If Margarito would have started a little bit faster, he would have won.

Not to take anything away from Williams, but I think a mover like Carlos could present him with a lot of problems, probably even moreso than a guy like Cintron who would breakdown after 3 or 4 rounds of pressure.

Carlos lost to Cotto, but that was honestly the best I've ever seen of Cotto, I'd be hardpressed to see any welterweight stand up to that kind of pressure.

Margarito and Julio are on two ENTIRELY different levels as fighters.

And I agree that Williams isnt cut in the same mold as Cotto (tho H2H I think Williams beats him...but that is neither here nor there), but in the Cotto fight, Quintana showed he struggled when having to mix it up. Williams WILL throw ALOT!!!!! of punches, meaning if Quintana is gonna to win, he will have to mix it up. This is not his strength.

Williams will hit him ALOT, he also faster and stronger than Quitana as well. I say he stops him within 6.

Williams is NOT as heavy handed as Cotto. I'd say Williams win a decision if Quintana doesn't find a way to counter and slow him down.

People are underestimating Quintana becuase of the Cotto beatdown he recieved, but you guys are going to be shocked to see how good he really is...I'm not saying that he will win, but he will definitely give Williams more than he could chew...no doubt.
